Alright....thanks for the replies for one thing. Win98SE did not detect any new hardware. I've installed the drivers for the scanner, and no CCD bar warms up. Also, I do not have anything about USB in my BIOS. For the record, this scanner did work when I used the win98SE install/recovery...

I just did everything you said...but no success. Could it be the USB cable or something? How can i check to make sure my USB settings are what they need to be, etc?? The scanner definitely works because the scanner light comes on when the power gets connected.... Thank you for your help...

Thanks for the support...keep the ideas coming!!! No, i do not have another device to test the port...I really wish I did though. HP's USBReady program to test my machine's readiness for USB (respectively) says it's all good and ready to go, though.

this is a HP Pavilion 4533 with a normal copy of win98se installed...the scanner is/should be the only USB device. I'm pretty sure I installed the drivers before hand....What should i do if i didn't? Any other questions?

Hey, my USB used to work...now usblog.txt says it's non-Intel.

There is a controller installed. I went through the rest of your steps....but no luck. If I go to Add New Hardware, the scanner is not detected, nor can I install from a driver list. For some reason the list only has kodak products. Thanks for the help.

Hey, my USB used to work...now usblog.txt says it's non-Intel.

I'm trying to get my scanner, HP Scanjet 3300C USB, to work. This machine is a lowly HP Pavilion 4533. I got rid of the win98 HP install and just loaded plain 98SE. Under the HP install, the scanner/usb worked....now it doesn't. This machine is a piece of crap, i know, but i'd really like to...

How could i counter hack people who hack me every freaking 3 hours.

I dunno about counter-hacking, but there's good ol' abuse@their.ISP. Just dns the IP, find the hostname, and mail the log. The server admins and such will take care of it. -Zach

I'm looking forward to something better than this HP Pavilion 4533 @450mhz of raging fury...some day. How much would it cost me to build...have someone build and send, this machine: 800+mhz, AMD all the way. I'd like to overclock to 1+ghz not much into Mobo's..pick a cheap but efficient one...

The drive was formatted, and there is currently data on the disk...if at all possible i dont wanna format the disk again, it's pretty much priceless data without a backup :(. Like i said, the disk was working fine, then i did this recovery thing and i'm getting this disk letter assignment...

BIOS does detect the drive, it's picked up in windows too. The problem is (as you can see in that screenshot) is that the disk is not being assigned a disk letter. Also, this disk has worked before, if you're wondering, and the bios is showing exactly what it showed before i did the recovery...

I just did an "install what came with your machine" on this particular pc with my secondary hdd not installed. When I shutdown and installed the disk, I noticed that it was not in the My Computer menu, and the dev manager said it wasnt assigned a disk letter. There's a picture at...

thank for the help. I checked for any viruses...it was virii free. Win98SE is my OS. Today i used the WD disk that came with the drive and i believe it installed EZ-Bios.

I'm having a problem with this WD 40gb of mine. It seems to have trouble reading. When i play an mp3 or something audio, it accelerates the bitrate so all i get is a really fast and annoying song. Also, i get these "N.exe is not a valid win32 application" errors. That's recent. Before...
