$99 - 24 port POE switch

as far as i can tell, unmanaged, but the macid is confusing (and the switch does not grab a dhcp'ed address). the 2 page installation manual says all 24 ports can do POE, the powerDsine internal power module connects to all 24 10/100 ports, and i've tried all 24 ports with a POE mitel 5330...

Ig, that is a pretty good idea, except some of our field producers use laptops, and even the ones with desktop would be hard pressed to put anything in their system. i was trying to keep it very simple (ie, firewire 800/400 or usb hookup.) thanks for all the help!

i've had good luck reflashing cards like that with working firmware from other good card (they can still be flashed even if the card won't "boot"). stick a heatsink on the one missing a heatsink, and try her out. any word on performance, bios, or adaptec software working with the card...

Will we see 8800GTs with >512MB soon? At all?

a few of the benchmarks indicate that the 8800gt 512 is either memory limited or memory bandwidth limited on a few games at very high resolutions. if the shortcoming is memory bandwidth, then nothing can be done. if the shortcoming is simply video memory, then a 1gb card could be well...

since the 8800gt uses less power any way the mobile version is coming?

125 watts tdp is still a big power suck for a laptop. 8600gt mobile is 25 - 35 watts. even the 7900gtx mobile was less than 60 watts (i think 55?). i agree that the performance gap is monumental! i really hope they can get this chip into a laptop with reasonable power levels.

well, i fixed accessing my raid, but i used ubuntu instead of fedora... even the Live CD boot of ubuntu could read the full raid array without any problems. the only issue is that the megaraid sas manager is an RPM release only. i converted it using alien, but the scripts die on install.

that kt890 chipset does not have pci/pcie locks, which is why the fsb overclocks are so poor. try increasing the pcie and pci busses a little and see if that gives you some headroom on the overclock, or use the pin mod (much better).

Clarification needed on FSB speeds

actual board clock rate is 333 fsb, but it transfers 4 times per clock cycle, thus 1333 fsb on the cpu. the ram used is all double data ram (2 times per clock cycle), so you need ddr ram that is clocked at ddr 667 to get a matching base rate for a 1:1 ratio.
