speaking of mx570's, whats the deal with low power mobile dgpus like the mx series & 6600m from AMD? i don't recall ever seeing a laptop in the past few years which includes them- instead they all seem to have high power laptop versions of desktop gpu's like 3050, 3060, etc?
launch? if rembrandt is any indication, these probably won't be available until mid 2024 at best. maybe by then we will have some good 6800U options too.
i think that depends on what one means by low end. there is certainly very little difference between a 4500U cpu & a 6800U cpu but the ipgu's are vastly different. personally i don't care much about the cpu speed of modern APU's as everything i do is far more impacted by graphics performance...
in my case i can play around 90% of the games i want to on my 4500U so the upgrade to a 6800U would allow access to the other 10% along being future proof against any new games.
i don't want a laptop with a dgpu though or i would do so. the games i play do not require anything near a 3050 so a 6800U is all the performance i need at this point. i think you are correct about amd competing with itself though so am rooting for intel to step up it's igpu game so consumers...
is this an AMD issue or the laptop manufacturers doing? it seems the majority of laptop users are all clamoring for 6800U options as this is by far the best rembrandt chip imo. if things don't get better soon, i think many consumers will look elsewhere & buy intel, perhaps for the first time...
i agree-rembrandt laptop availablity has been terrible to say the least, even in the US and especially for the 6800U. seems like rembrandt was targeted for handhelds & as far as laptops, it's merely a stopgap between cezzane & phoenix.
laptops are the way to go imo. small & portable they also come with keyboard, monitor, camera & microphone. i went from desktop to laptop only starting with the 200U and have not looked back. now if only i were able to find the 6800U model i want i'll be set for 3+ years until strix point.
i did consider a similar option & recently saw a 5800H + 3050 for $750 at microcenter but i would much prefer to stick with the much lower powered 6800U if possible. if december goes by & there are not the 6800U options i am looking for, perhaps i will start to look elsewhere. as a lifetime AMD...
it's not worth the upgrade from vega though. personally cost wise it would be better to go with a 5800U over a 6600u so really the 6800U is the sweet spot as far as prcie & performance for laptops imo.
wow, what an underwhelming list-thanks for compiling it though. the only 6800U's abpve 14" are $1,500 which is at least $700 more expensive than they should be.
this lenovo is an example of exactly what i am looking for but with 6800U instead of the 5800U it has...
great-more awesome products that no one will be able to buy for at least several years at best. it's been 9 months and it's still impossible to find a decent 6800U at a reasonable price, lol.
because zen4 is on a new die while rembrandt is based on zen3 which has been around for a few years makes it likely that phoenix will have less availability.
phoenix will likely cost significantly more than rembrandt and i have not seen anything which would indicate that it will have improved availability. maybe by the time it is launched those of of waiting for a 6800U will finally be able to purchase one at a reasonable price.
a long time to wait but there is not much choice. by then no one will be able to buy phoenix point
i think more & more lifetime AMD fans may look to intel for laptops if price & lack of availability continue to be so poor. it does not matter how great a product may be if consumers cannot...
i don't think that it's a case of poor execution but instead AMD obviously considers U based laptop consumers to be of zero importance in their business model. if this is still the case at the end of 2022 then there is little hope that things will ever improve with 6800U's. 6800U availabilty is...
here is a very similar lenovo to the one i posted for $750 except it has a 1 TB ssd instead of 512GB and 100% sRGB but is priced $470 higher.

from what i understand unless one is doing video editing or digital photography a screen like this should be fine. for only $750 it is expected that it will not be top of the line hardware.
i was tempted but decided to hold out for a 6800U with no dgpu as the games i play don't need anything more than a 680M. according to the website the microcenter near me (westmont) has 5 in stock.
Lenovo IdeaPad Gaming 15.6" Laptop Computer 6800H RTX3050 $749
in store only for those who live near a microcenter:

it's almost Oct & consumer rembrandt availability is still horrendous. as poor as 6800U availability is now, i can't help but wonder how bad things will get if the tensions between china & thailand continue to escalate.
agreed-there are not only very limited 6800U laptops but they are also only available with 13-14" screens & i have not seen a 15-16" 6800U yet. if i was interested in buying a laptop with a dgpu i would just get an AM4 cezzane & save a ton of $.
benchmarks have their place but how much difference would one actually notice between them in real life applications? for all but the most intensive applications perhaps a second or two at most?
for the vast majority of users who only stream video, webrowse and play games @ 1080p i think a...
exactly-to me, the sweet spot is the 6800U with igpu only as i don't really see the point of the other 6000 series since one can get a 5000 series laptop with a dgpu for much less $. that is exactly what i would do if i did not want an igpu only laptop.
