optical out on soyo kt333 platinum

does anybody use the optical out on the addon card on the kt333 platinum successfully? if so, is there anything special (besides installing drivers, etc) that you had to do to get it to work? thanks for any help you can offer... david

thanks guys.. that helps out a lot... is hyperthreading that big of a deal? fyi, i'm switching from AMD since longer than i can remember, going witht he p4 mostly because i do a lot of media encoding... any thoughts or tips..

no, you cant increase the Vcore on the shuttle, which is why after your guys input i'm going to go with the 1.8a. nice o/c almost guaranteed (esp with the new c1 stepping, i hear?) just by bumping the bus to 533, at stock cooling. i do have some extra A/S from my last upgrade, good thought. even...

I am downsizing my system to one of the new shuttle xpcs (sb51g) after reading all the good reviews... i want to get a 1.8a or 2.0a and run it at a 533 mhz bus... but i'm afraid the 2.67ghz that the 2.0a goes too will be too much for such a small case... although with all i've heard, the same...

Why do AMD T-BIrds cost more than XPs?

also, many tbirds were factory unlocked (unlike the new xps), eg newegg sells the tbird 1400 ahyja for like 90 bucks, as opposed to 60 for the xp 1600+ -david

i just put together an new computer using my old athlon 1400 (ayhja) on a soyo dragon ultra with the intent of overclocking it using a thermalright ax-7 and whatever fan was necessary. just to get it started, i have it running at default speed with a no-name 2600 rpm fan, and it runs anywhere...

IBM 75GXP - wots the guts?

It sounds like the Enermax 3051L-B3A @ directron.com is perfect for you... aluminum, pre-modded windo, they ahve black and silver versions, like 7 3.5 in drive bays, comes with a neon light too, all for $75. I just bought one for way more than that ar xoxide.com, before i noticed the SAME case...

Is there a mATX motherboard that has the O'Cing options necessary to take a 1.6ghz or 1.8ghz northwood to 2.4???

right now it looks like the frontrunner. but the questions still linger in my head... 1. does the P4B533-VM come with a optical/SPDIF-out? 2. is there any way to mod the bios to allow voltage upping in the BIOS? Anyone who can clear this up, I would be much obliged... -David

The size of power supplies

Yes, many mATX cases take microATX or flexATX (somebody back me up here) PSes. i think the term for mATX PSes is "SFX"... they usually run from 150W to 200W, which doesn't sound like a lot, but it's almost always enough for an mATX board, a P4, and the limited extras that will fit in an mATX...

i think i got the difference now... now all i need is someone to explain how the P4 will ramp up in the future. as far as I can tell, much of the northwood's o'cability is due to the fact that it is based on a 100(X4) bus that can easily be put at 133(x4)=533mhz. What, then are the implications...

so it's basically the celeron 300a all over again... ahh, those were the days... i remember it like it was yesterday... *drifting into memory-mode* i was 15 or 16... i read that the celeron 300a would automatically go to 450mhz just by upping the fsb to 100mhz... it almost sounded too easy...
