  1. Is 16GB enough for Game Dev?

    Ok, kid.
  2. Is 16GB enough for Game Dev?

    Brilliant reply.
  3. Is 16GB enough for Game Dev?

Fast machine to build, slow machine to test.
  4. USB Flash Drives

I've been using a bunch of Adata S102 drives in the last three years or so: 16 (x2), 32 (x2), 64 (x4) and two128 GB (which I have not used yet). No complains. I trust them, but maybe it's just luck, of course.
  5. USB Flash Drives

Another vote for the Adata S102.
  6. Disabling Intel's Management Engine (ME)

Science-fiction. A decision taken by Intel a few weeks ago does not modify (and could not modify) the characteristics of a processor (i7-4771) launched in Q3-2013. Anyway, have you read what you wrote? If Intel is willing to separate "consumer and professional platforms", it's (obviously)...
  7. Disabling Intel's Management Engine (ME)

Pointless remark. As a matter of fact, I'm not interested in what you have to say. I already have provided a link that proves my point. Bye.
  8. Disabling Intel's Management Engine (ME)

Think again. No "consumer" would need a resource like vPro, and not every business needs a Xeon cluster. Intel® vPro™ Technology
  9. Disabling Intel's Management Engine (ME)

As I said, the i7-4771 is a "business model" processor. I'm not concerned with the NSA (I mean, at an individual level), but with ramsonware and stuff like that. :)
  10. Disabling Intel's Management Engine (ME)

Never mind, I found the information: The Intel Management Engine (ME) is a separate computing environment physically located in the MCH chip or PCH chip replacing ICH. The ME consists of an individual processor core, code and data caches, a timer, and a secure internal bus to which additional...
  11. Disabling Intel's Management Engine (ME)

All modern Intel processors have this backdoor? I use a "business" Haswell (i7-4771).
  12. The Ryzen "ThreadRipper"... 16 cores of awesome

I'd like to have one even if wrapped in a box like this:
  13. WD's 'My Book' 6TB findings...

    Thanks for the warning.
  14. I just realized Windows 7 cannot be installed on a Kaby Lake

I could find some use for a ten bucks LGA1151. Well, maybe.
  15. I just realized Windows 7 cannot be installed on a Kaby Lake

I'm slowly moving my PCs to Windows 8.1 + Classic Shell. Until 2023, that's what's left for those who avoid Windows 10 like the pest, and that's what I intend to use with Ryzen or Ryzen II. But, for now, Windows 7 is the king on my Haswell.
  16. DRAM prices to keep increasing through 2017

Considering that option (a) is somewhat risky and option (b) is expensive... The best option (IMO) would be to wait. I mean, if you can cope with waiting... Having said that, option (b) is (again IMO) a better solution.
  17. cpu backdoor within a intel cpu?

I bought my i7-4771 at a retail store and now it's not being considered a "consumer CPU" anymore? I'll reboot now in order to disable vPro in the bios.
  18. DRAM prices to keep increasing through 2017

I was expecting this. Thus, I will stick (no pun intended) with DDR3 until 2018 or beyond.
  19. 8Gb to 16Gb - Recommendation

Yep. To wait a bit would also makes sense. But IMO to buy old tech at expensive prices would not make any sense. I'm in this thread because I almost did exactly the same thing (with my wife's computer) a year ago. At that time, BTW, prices were much better than today.
  20. 8Gb to 16Gb - Recommendation

And the OP already have 8GB, so he can't complain.
  21. 8Gb to 16Gb - Recommendation

Considering the i7-2600k specs, I don't think that the extra MHz will help. Beside that, it's not a good moment to buy RAM of any kind. Unless you're assembling a new system, stay away from the RAM market... It would be better to save the money for a future upgrade (a new system with 16GB of...
  22. Which was Intel's first CPU to require a cooler?

If I remember well, my AMD 386 DX-40 was bare.
  23. Lessons Learned: Ryzen Launch

We must be fair: Intel also have a lot of threads. They're way more expensive though.
  24. What was AMD thinking with Ryzen?

We have the truth already? How wonderful.
  25. Your Take on Ryzen? Worth buying or stick to Intel

AMD? Nah... I'll be waiting for quantum computing. And Cryonics. Now seriously: I'm getting along with my i7-4771 with 32GB of RAM, but I will definitely assemble my next rig with an updated Ryzen (with a newer stepping).
  26. Coaxial SPDIF for ASUS motherboard

Thanks. Seems to be an easy hack. This is the ASUS S/PDIF_OUT scheme: PIN1= Power (+5V) PIN2=[EMPTY] PIN3=SPDIF OUT PIN4=GROUND
  27. Coaxial SPDIF for ASUS motherboard

I'm willing to use the coaxial digital (SPDIF) output of my motherboard. In order to do that, I need to use a proper bracket. Problem: the SPDIF brackets from Gigabyte (which can be found easily for sale) have this connection scheme: PIN1= Power PIN2=SPDIF OUT PIN3=GROUND but my ASUS Z97...
  28. How to kill the annoying led light of this Zalman mouse

I talked about a led light in the OP. In the post you quoted, I'm discussing distinct matters.
  29. How to kill the annoying led light of this Zalman mouse

Let's analyze what you have said. 1. I knew since the beginning that this mouse with this particular led light, once used for more than twenty minutes, could heat my hand and annoy me. 2. Only stupid people buy annoying stuff. 3 Hence, I'm stupid. Because the first premise is wrong, the...
  30. How to kill the annoying led light of this Zalman mouse

I'm quite happy with this mouse (ZM-M350) from Zalman. However, I wanted to remove one of the led lights: not the DPI mode indicator light, but the annoying bright light which is always on. And I discovered that it's a really easy task, so I decided to share here some information. In order to...
  31. cpu backdoor within a intel cpu?

Out of curiosity, which older AMD processors do not have the cpu backdoor?
  32. Ryzen will support Windows 7

This is a sensible argument. However, we're talking about Windows 10. I don't want someone else deciding what OS I can or cannot use, and this is particularly true if the concerned OS is Windows 10. I'm starting to think that Windows 8.1 can be an acceptable compromise. Today Intel, tomorrow...
  33. Ryzen will support Windows 7

Well, if this is not threadcrapping, then I don't know (yet) what threadcrapping is. No offense.
  34. Ryzen will support Windows 7

I guess I'm starting to understand what "thread crapping" means. ;) I want to be able to make a choice.
  35. Is my CPU causing stuttering in BF1?

Was the game installed in a Hard Disk?
  36. Workstation MB ?

ImDisk / ImDisk Toolkit is free and allocates memory dynamically. Softperfect Ramdisk is a good paid solution, but does not allocate memory dynamically.
  37. Have you used (or are using) RAMDisk?

This. I use mine to hold the browser cache and the temp files. I chose ImDisk because it is able to allocate memory dynamically, which makes much more sense.
  38. Who's who in power supplies... nowadays?

You went straight to the (relevant) point. Yes, this is precisely my concern. Apart from the project, which is the same, and the components, which are supposed to be the same, we have the hands that will assemble the components and execute the project. Can I be sure that the hands in the main...
