DVD-Rom drive scratching disks?

OK. So i installed my new Hitachi GD-7500 DVD-Rom Drive. 12x/40x. I put a CD into it for a test run, and it doesn't read. The drive just spins the CD. I took the CD out, and there was a huge circle gouge on it. Why is the head scratching the CD? I flashed the BIOS for the drive...but i doubt...

Experiences with Santa Cruz

Anyone have experience with this card? I need/want a new sound card because my onboard AC97 playback dies after a little while, and my Yamaha DS-XG recording doesn't work. Please list any good or bad experiences with this card, compatability problems, etc... And don't start recommending the...

ibm 60gxp not showing up in my computer

Partition it. It needs to be a DOS partition to be seen by windows. YOu don't need an extended partition if you don't want to split your hard drive.

Just as the subject says. Randomly, my sound will die out while running some application, be it playing mp3's, watching movies, or playing games. Its really annoying. All of a sudden it'll just die out and go...

Duron 800@1000

Alpha PAL6035 with Sunon 26cfm 60mm fan. GlobalWins are good too. The 32-1 and the 38 are the same sinks, just different fans. If you compare cooling from GW and Alpha sink, using same fan, the Alpha will cool better. You can always change the fan on the Alpha anyways. You might wanna go...

need to oc a Duron 800 with a MSI-k7t 2a

I can get my multiplier up to 10x with my duron 800 on that mobo, but with the restart/no post problem. 9.5x gives absolutely no probs. Want to get new ram so i can o/c more with fsb. Currently running 9.5x103. Make sure you have a good heatsink/fan.

My first post of many....hsf (amd). :)

Alpha PAL 6035 with 26cfm Sunon 60mm fan. Bought from plycon.com. Shipped to my house within 4 days. Good cooling, and EASY to install with the new clip. GlobalWin makes good heatsinks. 32-1 and 38 are the same heatsink, just different fans.

Should I be sucking or blowing?

Get two more fans. Two in back blowing air out of the case, two in front sucking air into the case. thats should be sufficient. If you want better air flow, round your cables or buy rounded cables. You can also buy that enermax p/s that has the two fan setup. That'll suck more air out of...

How much Arctic Silver is too much?

Which PS do I buy?

I've heard that Sparkle makes great power supplies. And their voltage regulation is tighter than any of the enermax's...so thats a plus.

CPU fan blows in or out?

Have fan blow AWAY from heatsink. If you put your hand on top of it, you should feel air blowing against it.

Getting a new Duron... what all do I need to do to setup?

If you are planning on overclocking, don't use the A7V. Go with Abit or MSi. If not..then i say, thats a pretty good choice. When you install the new mobo, you might want to get an flash upgrade for the bios.

Ocing Duron700 / MSI Pro2a, don't understand.

I have yet to experience any problems with 3 different systems running MSi's K7T Pro2-A mobo. One with Duron 800 o/c to gig, one with Thunderbird 1gig, one with Thunderbird 1.2 gig. All are just as stable as Anandtech had said. The only problems come from Windows ME and 98se being crappy...

Suggestions to help me overclock my duron 800!!!

Go with more voltage all the way. I'm running my Duron 800 at a gig with 1.85 cpu core voltage. My RAM doesn't allow me to push the FSB very high...PC100 SDRAM. Also my P/S is crap

L1 Bridge Unlocking

Go with a conductive pen. I used the CAIG Labs, Inc. Circiut Writer. Worked like a charm. I first put the ink onto a piece of paper, and applied it with a toothpick and magnifying glass. Trust me, this is better than the pencil trick, which just didn't seem to want to work for me.

Can't overclock Duron further

38*C WHEN IDLE!!! THATS HUGE! My Duron 800 idled at around 31*C when not overclocked. And I'm running my Duron at a gigahertz on 1.85 cpu voltage and it idles at around 40-41*C. Get yourself some cooling man...

Coolmaster and Duron 800

Tight is good. Just not TOO tight. If it fits snug, then its fine. But one question...why a Coolermaster hsf? You could do so much better.

Are you happy with your Duron?

Duron 800 gives a good amount of power for gaming without the need for overclocking, but overclocking is FUN! Plus it'll give you a little more power. Look at my siggy for my system stats. Its the perfect CPU for the budget machine too...I bought mine in January for 72.95. I'm sure that AMD's...

AMD O/C with a KT7A

Duron's are great overclockers. You can usually get a Duron 600, 700 up to a gigahertz no problems. My 800 had no real problems to get above a gigahertz. And it is really stable. Like a rock. I've heard some stories of Thunderbirds overclocking pretty well, but they cost quite a bit more...

question about a dead Duron

Lower your FSB. Try running at your default settings. I have problems running stable at 105 fsb on my MSi K7T Pro2-A with Duron 800. So lower your FSB, that might help. Thats always the problem to fix whenever my system either doesn't post, or hangs at the windows screen. If you have...

Running Duron 800 @1007 since January on MSi K7T Pro2-A with Voodoo3 2000. Nice improvement over my Celery 300a @450 on Abit BE-6.

Placing FOP 38 easier or Alpha 6035?

The Alpha PAL6035 has to be the easiest hsf i have ever used. The new clip makes putting the hsf on, and taking it off, a lot quicker.

850 Duron or 900 T-Bird?

Don't get the 850. Waste of money. You can get the same speeds out of it by buying the 800, 700, 600.

can i change CPU volt. on duron cpu?

The L7 bridges allow you to change the voltage. Just connect them in a certain combination if your mobo don't support it in the bios. Go to tomshardware.com they have a good guide on o/c durons with voltage stuff in there.
