8KHA+ Which is pin 1 on JBAT1 (CMOS clear) jumper

Hi all, Just putting together my new rig - 8KHA+ with Athlon XP1500. Can any one tell me whether the manual is correct with regard to the JBAT1 jumper that clears the CMOS (page 3-5)? Mine shows pin 1 on the right (looking at the board with cpu socket at the top), but the board has arrived...

Is there a freeware tweak utility that will enable me to adjust my monitor resolution on my STB 4400 card to 1280 x 960?

There's no reason why you shouldn't be able to create mutiple partitions in a RAID setup.

No idea. I've never seen anything published which indicates what the changes are with each revision. Hell, it's hard enough finding out what changes in BIOS updates. I only suspect 1.06 exists because others claim to have it already.

My vendor has agreed to replace my board with a 1.06 when/if he gets that level in stock. I'm pinning my hopes on that.

Perhaps as nobody else is posting to this thread the problem is my particular instance of this board and nothing to do with revision 1.05? Can anyone tell me how to get support from Asus?

Maxtrox users - does your card work in your KT133A board?

Neither my Matrox 450 nor 400 work in my A7V133 (rev 1.05) board). If you have a Maxtrox card and another brand of motherboard (or another revision of the A7V133) post here.

I tried setting AGP speed from 4x to 1x and put the Matrox card back in - no joy. The only other AGP related setting that I can find is AGP Drive Strength. I have not changed this (it is set to Manual by default) because it is not obvious how it works. If it's anything like AGP Driving...

Yep, I can't get my A7V133 rev 1.05 to post with either of my Matrox cards (G400 and G450 DDR).

OK, does anybody with rev 1.06 have the board working with a Matrox card? I need maximum 2D quality and I don't think there is much alternative to a Matrox card.

My G400 doesn't allow the A7V133 to post either, but my old STB 4400 does work. As yet, I have no idea why this should be. Upgrading the A7V133 BIOS to 1004 hasn't made any difference.

I have the same problem with this graphics card on an A7V133 revision 1.05 (1.04 works ok). The card works on other boards. Don't know why yet.

I have now verified that my Matrox G450 32Mb card is incompatible in some way with the revision 1.05 A7V133. The card does work on revision 1.04 boards. Other graphics cards work on the 1.05 board. Anyone else seen this?

Testing has narrowed the problem down to the G540 in tandem with the A7V133, either an incompatibility between the two or a dodgy motherboard/AGP slot. Anyone else have a working Matrox G450 DDR with an A7V133?

Dreaded situation. I've just put together a new system with a 1.2Ghz 266FSB T'bird on an A7V133 board + Taisol HSF + Enermax EG651 (550W power supply) + 256MB Crucial 133 CL2 memory + Matrox G540. Powered up the system, all fans working, but no monitor display and no beeps. How to diagnose...

DMA in win2k! Please read!

The best solution pre SP2 is to download the ATASWITCH utility from the IBM storage site and set you disk to operate in ATA-66 (UDMA 4) mode. Win2K will then recognise it and work fine. Don't mess with the beta 4-in-one IDE drivers.

Are you running beta level VIA 4 in 1 drivers? I've had occasional and dfficult-to-pin-down data problems with 4.26 to 4.28.

Not sure is this is what you are referring to, but start up DR Watson (Run Drwtsn32.exe) and change its options.

Only the IDE busmasters under Windows 2000. They suck. Not overt instability, just subtle problems that you suspect are attributable.

photoshop 6 buggy?

Yep, it's not anywhere near as stable as it should be, but I really like the new features, especially soft-proofing. Circumvention is to hit control-k and reduce the amount of memory PShop uses to 30%. See the Adobe user-to-user forum on their web site for the full catalogue of horrors.

Where do I find the 4.26 VIA 4 in 1 drivers?

Disk performance is definitely better under Win2K with the bustmaster drivers (580_3011) available on the same page. These are not proven as being completely stable, however, and you also need to be aware that you may have problems with CD burning unless you use Easy CD Creator 4.03/Direct CD 3.03.

SP2 and VIA 4.26

I'm running 4.26 with SP1. I'm not sure that drives showing as SCSI is actually a problem. Initially, I like others had problems with my CD burner, but this was fixed by downloading the latest (quite recent) update to Easy CD Creator (4.03) and Direct CD (3.03). I wouldn't claim that 4.26...

Windows 2000 will not support ATA-100 until Service Pack 2 (SP2), unless you want to phone Microsoft to get the hotfix (it's not worth it). I used an IBM support utility called ATASWITCH here: http://service.boulder.ibm.com/storage/hddtech/ibmatasw.exe to force by IBM 75GXP into UMDA 4...

windows2000 equivelant of msconfig?

Just use MSCONFIG, ignoring the error messages on start-up (when it can't find config.sys etc). (Of course, you have to copy MSCONFIG from Windows98 and place it in WINNT\SYSTEM folder)
