Kyro2 does it again.

The future of Kyro II is bright... as long as their drivers programmers are bright. They could produce a very great card (like ATI Radeon), but if the drivers don't unlock the true power of the card (or are questionnably unstable), well, good bye bright features. I'm sure that people want a card...

Question about Kyro II

Oh, by the way, you can always try to find a GLIDE Wrapper (or "emulator") on the Net. It emulates the GLIDE API via DirectX or OpenGL. It takes some cpu/gfx overhead, so the game will be slower, but at least it'll make run your old games with a current video card.

Question about Kyro II

No, only Voodoo graphics cards are supporting GLIDE. It's a proprietary of 3Dfx (or at least of what's left of). Kyro II is made by STM if I remember... So, no luck. However, I would go for a 3D Prophet 4500 because the Voodoo^5 5500 is now officially unsupported 'cause nVidia bought all of 3Dfx...

best 15" monitor

Sony should be the best choice because the image quality is one of the highest... and I think that you don't see the two CRT tube lines in the screen (can someone confirm that?). However, why don't you get a 17" or 19"? It should be more confortable for your eyes.

GeForce Ultra and VIA chipsets

Well, AGP4X can do a major difference in HEAVILLY texturised games when a large amount of textures must reside in RAM... Then again, it's mostly 3D Design OpenGL stuff that uses that much textures, so you shouldn't really worry about AGP4X.

Hmm... I've played a lot with ASUS CUV4X where I work and they all support AGP4X... I've tried also GeForce2 GTS with them, and it was working well, so I don't see why a Ultra wouldn't work at AGP4X with that... However, as it's a VIA chipset, you must be SURE to download the lastest drivers at...

Questions about ATI Radeon 64MB DDR VIVO....

Just a comment... The Matrox G450 is almost the same as G400, except that the G450 has a smaller die size (.18µ instead of .25µ) and it *could* be clockerd higher, but I don't remember quite well... So if the FPS of your friend suck in a game with a G400, good chances that it'll suck as much...

vickertj, it depends if AMD decides to change the pinout of the Palomino (like the P4 Northwood compared to the P4 Willamette)... If they change the Socket-A to something like Socket-A2, well, just too bad, all current motherboards will be obsolete. However, if AMD will do only a CORE upgrade...
