Thanks for the reply. I was thinking about a Sata card and Sata SSD but it turns out the M.2 SSD and PCIe card works out costing similar and has substantially better performance so thought it may be a good option. After i search the net the only issues I found is they will not work as boot disks...
Sorry I did not make it clear, I was intending to plug it in to the PCIe slot not a dedicated M.2 slot. It's an old Asus duel Xeon motherboard and only has legacy BIOS.
I have never used the M.2 format before so was wondering is there anything I should know before trying to use one in an old motherboard? The motherboard only has legacy boot BIOS and PCIe 1.0 x8 ( 4 link ) slots. I know it will not natively support booting from the driver and know the 1.0 socket...
Sadly it's no longer like the days of the good old CRTs when you can run any resolution you like. In general with modern screens only turn down resolution to hole divisions. So 4k to 1080 is ok and 1440 to 720 is also ok. As soon as you start getting fractions of pixels it all starts going poorly.
Just stumbled across a video that actually sheds some insight on the subject. if anyone is interested this is the link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pjZ3MmxP0Fg
This is not intended as a fanboy type question but just wondering if anyone has done tests on the newest cards on lower spec or old systems? In general the addition of a modern graphics hardware is a great way of cheaply transforming a relatively mundane system in to a perfectly usable gaming...
I did not think many would have official support but I suspect there will be some that will still work on older drivers. It does appear most Windows 7 drivers will work on Windows 10 so I will start my search for a Windows 7 card and hope I get lucky.
Thanks for the reply. It i proving tricky to track one down. I have stumbled across the odd PCI-X Sata card that officially supports Windows 10 but no full blown SAS cards.
Hello, I require a little advice with an old socket 604 setup. I have these parts
Dual socket 604 motherboard ( 800mhz Rev 2 style )
Xeon MP CPUs
Genuine Intel coolers
CEK Rev 2 clips
But I do not know how to connect the coolers or how the CEK clips work. I have seen parts listed as "back...
