Can I just replace the stock fan with a quieter fan (panaflow or?). I guess I would need some sort of adapter as the stock fan looks much smaller than 80mm. btw...I am not overclocking.
I have a stock headsink/fan on my 1.2 athlon. The fan is clearly the loudest part of my system and I would like to replace it with a quieter model. Can you recommend a heatsink/fan that would deliver about the same cooling power as the stock parts but be much quieter.
I am trying to order a Dell system for my sister. She would use it only for business. While I have built my own systems I want to suggest a prebuilt system for her. What would have better performance....a dell 4500 p4 2.26 mhz with the faster 533 bus and 512 megs of ddr memory or a dell 8200...
My power supply died so I replaced it with a antec truepower 330. I like it a lot because it is very quiet. My problem is in the middle of the night the computer turns itself on. I am using winxp. I tell windows to shut down and it does but the next morning the computer is back on! Any ideas?
I have a triple boot system working with win98, xp and 2000. My problem, when I installed 2000 I didn't feed the install the raid controller (that I use only as an extra ide controller). After 2000 was installed I installed the promise controller driver which on reboot moved the drive which 2000...

When I play video files I have created the ati video player plays them back rather jerky....slighly pausing ever second. It doesn't happen with the windows media player. Should I just uninstall the ati player and let microsoft handle the avi playback or???
I purchased a 7dxr from thenerds.net. It came in about a week...well packed. Before ordering I called them to see if it was in stock...they said they would check and get back to me..they did...I am happy. There website says it has one left...good luck...
I just finished building my first system ...a gigabyte ga-7dxr. Everything works fine except the system case fan will not spin down when the operating system (win98se) goes into sleep mode. The monitor and hard drive shut down but the fan continues to hum at full speed. I left the system on...
I am trying to decide between these two boards.
The kg7 has 6 pci slots - the 7dxr has only 5 but has onboard sound...that is kind of a wash unless you need a good soundcard
7dxr has a backup bios.
kg7 has 4 memory slots....7dxr only 3. That wouldn't be such a big deal but gigabytes specs...
Like many people on this forum I am eagerly waiting for the arrival of the gigabyte ga-7dxr and even more so the Abit KG7. There has been a lot of speculation about when this board would be for sale. Today I called the Freemont,California office of Abit. The sales dept told me they don't know...
I am thinking about going with an external usb modem for my new rig. I many pci cards and am concerned about irq conflicts if I go with a traditional pci modem. It seems to me the usb modem (or serial) would save me an irq and a slot. Any exerience with usb modems? Recommendations?:)
I want to build a video editing system and was thinking about using the msi k7t266 board. Is anyone using this new board with firewire? Any problems recording or playing back video?:) . Thanks in advance.
Is it better to plug the case fan into the motherboard or the powersupply? I understand the fan might slow down when the operating system goes into sleep mode. Which number of pins do I want for an athlon atx box?
Like many people on this board I have been trying to find a new motherboard....just when I think I have found one I seen a bunch of problem reports. The big question is should I wait for ddr to mature or stick with tried and true technology? Prices have come down on 1600 ddr memory but 2100 is...
I am starting to buy parts for my new system and was wondering about a cd-rom drive. Are there any good ones out there that are fast but quiet and vibration free? I have tried some of those $30 drives before and have found they are rather noisy. I thought the Creative cd-roms would be good...
If you look at AMD's list of approved power supplies you will see many popular power supplies that are only approved under 1gig. The popular antec power supply that usually ships with their cases pp303x is 300 watts and approved my AMD but only to 1 gig. If you have a 1.2 athlon you must up to...
Any suggestions for a super quiet mid tower case/power supply? I am starting to piece together my new system and want to keep the box as quiet as possible. No overclocking. I think I will buy one of those fanless radeon video cards (le) and a quiet ibm drive. I went looking for cases today...
My local Office Depot has the Pinnacle Studio Dv card for only $49. That is half the regular price. The best I could find it on the web was $81 dollars so I think it is a hot deal. Great for editing your new mini dv camcorder tapes. It comes with an ohci (standard) firewire card, firewire...
