Yeah I know what you mean. It's odd that even with TS turned off but started it throttles the CPU.
I get better cinebench scores if I have TS running and the multiplier set to 38 then I do with TS disabled. My guess is it is quicker at ramping up the cores or something like that (even if I...
Thanks for the info btw. I was able to just not launch throttle stop and get 27 to work. The odd thing is I get 2800 points in cinebench with 39 but only 2500 with 27.
So I don't get throttling with ucode 39 but of course it runs at 2.8GHz with AVX loads. Anyone seen throttling with version 27 like that? It won't go over 800mhz...
Also what are you guys setting your current limit to?
I have an odd issue maybe someone has seen.
I haven't been running any ucode on my 2696 and decided I'd try version 27. However after installing it with cpumcupdate2.1 I noticed my cpu is throttling.
Looking at throttle stop for limit reasons it says:
Power budget
EDP current
max turbo
multi...
You're right, I checked the throttling reason and with 18 cores enabled it says that it's throttling due to EDP current and Max Turbo. I wonder if there are any ways around that.
Yeah I'm not sure which part would be power limiting. Temps under a H115i have been great, I haven't seen anything even near 60C so far.
I did have C6 enabled and it boots fine, but I did have one lockup that may be attributed to that so I turned it off to see what happens (it was using C6 as...
While I'm not sure if this is normal or not, but my Package C state only goes up to C2 but I get C3 core states without issue.
I don't know if I'll go from 1.40 to 1.50 since there isn't a modded bios for it already, and I'm not sure I want to mess with it.
On a side note, my 2696 won't go...
An update to my little C state problem. Put my 2683 V3 in the Asrock Taichi and C-states work great with the same server 2016 install. Stupid Gigabyte...
Now I'm going to break it down and put this new to me 2696 in it...
I can't figure out the lack of C3 support with my Ultra Gaming - I just ordered an Asrock Taichi to see if that resolves it. I've spent way too much on this project, but it's super fun.
Ah I see, sorry I didn't realize you were trying to hold those at the same speeds. I'm not sure if there are any modified bioses that would allow you to do that, BCLK overclocks have always been limited.
If you know the date of 3a can't you just get it from intel directly? https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/26925/Linux-Processor-Microcode-Data-File
I'm not able to get C3 (or any powerstates besides C1) to work on my Gigabyte X99 Extreme Gaming motherboard. I went back to the stock bios and they still don't work, not sure if anyone here has this same board. Kind of ticks me off because I had zero issues with my Asrock X99m...
Yeah I'm not sure what is going on. C3 worked great with my Asrock board and lowered power consumption by ~30watts. Checking throttle stop it shows 0% c state percent for states 2-7. This is a fresh install of server 2016 with all the drivers installed. I've checked bios and forced C3 to...
So I just changed from an X99M Extreme 4 motherboard (running the v3.efi) to a gigabyte x99 ultra gaming (running a modified bios) and now I notice that my CPU won't go into C1-C3 states. Anyone else having an issue with the modified bios? I may try putting the stock bios on and seeing if it...
Sadly I don't have the same board as you, but check around under cpu configuration. Mine freezes every other time or so loading windows if C6 is enabled.
Sadly I haven't got a clue, I just know on page 14 it talks about using V3_1.efi with ES/QS cpus. Maybe try turning off the power to the power supply for a min to clear out the ram and try again?
Not sure of the best way to explain this...
Basically the FS# is like a different drive letter. You know when you go to computer in windows you have c: d: e: etc drives?
The command "map -b" will display all of the available "drive letters". Which one contains your V3.efi and which one...
Your drive mapping is likely different.
Use:
map -b
that will show you all of the drives.
Say you want to see if fs1 is the right one then you would do the following:
fs1:
ls -b
If your V3.efi is there then you are golden, otherwise you'll have to look through the other file systems...
Sadly I've never used anything but the latest bios since I had a v4 before... You can control the voltage of the cpu but it's under the advanced tab I believe. I've only booted into efi shell via a usb device and pressing F11 on startup.

I renamed it as X99MX43.20 so that it would update on mine, it works with my 2683 V3.
Just had a quick question for you guys.
I have my 2683 v3 running at 3ghz but my Cinemark R15 scores are only 1850 (stock I was getting 1720ish). Any input for me there? I can see it's running at 3ghz while running the test according to CPU-Z. I have an asrock x99m motherboard, running...
This is an awesome thread! I'm going to give it a shot on a e5 2695 V3 ES when I have some free time. It should be a good replacement to my E5-2630 V4 that I currently have. I hope I can get it to work on Server 2016...
