I've been running the BCLK at 170 for over 6 years now and there was no problem whatsoever. I seem to recall that BCLK overclocking only caused problems on SandyBridge and later CPUs.

I'd like to know if it is possible to increase the DMI bandwidth on a P55 board (ASUS P7P55D-E) by increasing the BCLK.
The reason for this is my plan to use an m2 NVMe SSD in my second PCI-e x16 slot (only 4 PCI-e 2.0 lanes available) with an m2 to PCI-e adapter.

Can the card use ALL of the bandwidth available to the slot, or is that only possible for a full x16 card?
I know that a x16 card in an x16 slot @ x4 speed is going to get the full x4 speed,
but is the same true for an x4 card in an x16 slot @ x4 speed?
I'm thinking about using a PCI-e x4...
In fact this result is way too good, the old Conroe seems to wipe the floor with Lynnfield and even Sandybridge, when accounting for the clock rate difference!

Don't you think it's the other way around? The games which favour higher single thread performance are those that use older engines.
The latest engines scale way better with 6+ cores.

btw. maybe you should add to the OP that instancing must be disabled.
CPU FAN 1 is the correct one for the primary CPU fan (some coolers have 2 fans).
The fan header does not fit on both orientations btw, look closely and you'll see that it is only meant for one orientation.
Indeed, from the looks of it many people will upgrade to ryzen, increasing the supply of older, but still very good, cpus on ebay.
Higher supply at lower demand -> cheaper price.
The same can be said about the ddr3 ram of those older systems btw.

I hope so, realistically though I think they were just content with refining the same basic uarch every generation, instead of taking the risk of stomping a completely new architecture out of the ground (dozer comes to mind :D)
I bought a good quad in 2010 (i7 860) and have been good (OCed though) for more than half a decade.
I too think it is likely that the same thing will happen for octas in the next 5 years.
A hexa might not be enough in a few years though, given that the consoles have octa hearts.
I just hope Ryzen starts the arms race once again.
Intel's performance improvements from gen to gen have gotten smaller with every release. Can't blame them though, that's just how a company maximizes its profit.
Did you try the modules / slots one at a time?
Maybe you accidently damaged a slot and that's why it's not working.
