Networking 300 houses

802.11g has a shorter range the 802.11b and we need all the range we can get. The WAP antennas will be 50'-60' in the air as it stands. We're trying to not put antennas as every house in the community, but we may have to on some of the more remote locations.

Putting together a USB CD burner

Being a cheap dude, I'm wondering if I buy an external 5.25" USB case, slap a CD-RW drive in it, will Nero recognize it? Assuming I load the USB drives for the drive case. In other words, are there other drivers needed besides what usually comes with the USB case? Thanks!

W2K Software RAID Q.

Try to keep the same SCSI type or better (Ultra/Ultra Wide/U2/U160). Shouldn't slow it dow at all otherwise. That's what nice about SCSI. :)

where do i download video, and other drivers for a dell 366mh laptop?

Unless someone removed the stickers on the bottom of the laptop, the service tag number and the express code should be there. Either will get you to the exact drivers.

Spent several hours last night installing several ASPI layers ( the best was from Adaptec which can be gotten here ). I've learned that Windows 2000 & XP do have an ASPI layer and one must be loaded for a lot of CD-ROM burner software to work. My collection of coasters groweth. Still looking...

Both the native app and Nero (the latest) give me no error messages, yet the CD is always tagged as blank and is totally unreadable. I can even burn to it a second time, with no error messages. Drive worked fine under Windows ME. On most media I can visually see that the CD was written to...

How do you convert a cd track to an mp3

Exact Audio Copy definately. Not the fastest, but the rips are always perfect. Located here. I've been using LAME for the conversion to MP3. Windows binaries can be gotten here.

Image a drive

The latest version of 'personal' Ghost (6.5) includes support for CD-R drives booted to DOS. It is pretty flakey support though. Doesn't often work for me.

Compaq Question

It's F10 IF the "diagnostic" partition is installed. Does FDisk show the first partition labled non-DOS? If not, you have no diag partition, therefore F10 will not work. How to add the diag partition? Nuke all partitions and download the utility from Compaq's site.

Dell Poweredge server boot problem (NT 4.0)

Did you install the SCSI controller drivers during the installation BEFORE it loaded the regular drivers? You must press F6 before the text part of the installation to load the drivers. Otherwise it'll do exactly what you're describing. Tim

Problem with brand new IBM 60GXP 40 gigger

Sounds like the BIOS and/or the IDE controller doesn't support that drive (meaning one or more of the Cylinder/Head/Sectors counts are too high). If you get a new controller (like the Maxtor or Promise), all should be well. Tim

If you were to install Win NT server can you think of any reason why..

The DOS command line should have been: copy /b file1+file2+file3 Result The /b produces a binary copy, meaning an exact byte-for-byte copy. Tim

cd rom player not seen by win98 se

Been there, done that. That is why I always copy the install files to the hard drive. After installing from there, the CD-ROM always comes back after the install is finished. Now go find some DOS drivers. :D Maybe the Win98SE startup disk will work for you. Tim

Windows98SE is not shutting down. It just reboots. Cannot fix it. Help!

Has it ever shutdown (i.e., powered down)? If it never has: 1) Only ATX style power supplies and motherboards that support "power off" will obey the command. 2) Some motherboards that 'support it' are different enough that Windows cannot shut it down. In that case, it just reboots...

Sure, I guess you could. Depending on what you are streaming and it's bit rates, you could. But anything decent will fill the pipe pretty quickly. You'll need a static IP if you want people to find you.

Migrating from 1 drive RAID 0 to 2 drive RAID 0

I'm missing something: You can't have a one-drive (physical) RAID 0 (takes two physical drives). Anyway, get GHOST and a drive to hold the image while you add/move RAID drives. Works great.
