It's really simple. Intel spends so much time planning a hugeass monolithic die, gets shit yields due to all the wafer defects, and when it comes out, it is what it is. Meanwhile, AMD can cheaply produce 8-core dies with high yield, due to the much lower area, then connect them into an N+1 core...

The thing about Intel's "response" with the "rushed" Skylake-X is that it's only possible because Intel has been sitting on SKL-SP for almost a year (anti-competitive agreement with Facebook to hold back the market!). Sure, with 12 cores, it might be able to outperform AMD R7 (won't be cheap)...

Intel is definitely scared of Zen and Naples, but SKL-X and CFL have nothing to do with it, since they aren't targeting the datacenter market. The problem for Intel is that they already launched SKL-SP last year and they have nothing left they can bring out until Ice Lake in 2019 or later...

Intel's marketing has never been the clearest, but the way it's going to work is that Intel's going to keep the real Skylake features for their premium HCC(XCC) SKUs, which are Platinum and the bigger Gold SKUs. However, us common folk are going to get hit with gimped-to-hell LCC-derived chips...

It will "have" AVX-512 deceptively. Intel will put it on the marketing slides, but the execution units will be 256-bit wide unless you fork out $$$ for the "Platinum" tier!

Exactly. What were the benefits of Skylake-SP supposed to be? - double throughput because of AVX-512 - 50% more bandwidth because of 6-channel memory What do Skylake-X and LCC/MCC Skylake-SP not have? - AVX-512 - 6-channel memory Might as well just buy Ryzen 16C/32T and get way more cores...

I won't support gimped CPUs. It doesn't matter to me if Ryzen is faster or not; I want to support honest business practices, not this artificially handicapped s*** from Intel. Ethical business practices are worth so much more than 1-2 fps in some games.
