I'm buying a new monitor in the next day or so and was thinking between these two models given that I want a flat screen 19" AG monitor. The NEC is a little more expensive but I like the black casing. Was just looking for some "real" opinions of these two monitors from people familiar with them...

Not seeing overclocking results on Ti200

5500 3dmarks isn't too bad for that setup. On my secondary system I have a 750 tbird (7.5x100) and a visiontek GF3 ti200 @ 230/450 and getting like 4800 3dmarks. I'd say it's your CPU limiting your performance. I get around 7850 3dmarks on my main system that's similar but with a 1.333ghz tbird...

Overclocking the Gainward Geforce 3 Ti 200...

Warm: Newegg Gainward/Cardexpet GeForce 3 Ti200 refub for $149

Although I'm currently using a GF3 Ti200 I'd most likely use a retail 8500 over it. The gainward ti200 seems to be a good overclocker. I have one running @ 235/515 with stock cooling.

Would an Alpha 8045 + a quiet panaflo cool better than a Vantec 6027D?

I'm currently using the Vantec 6027D on my t-bird @ 10x145 and getting idle temps of 38 and load at 43. The vantec isn't *too* loud (no loud scream/whine like my old black label 38cfm) but it isn't "near silent" either. I know an Alpha 8045 + a panaflo L1A would obviously be more quiet, but...

Samsung 19" 955df monitor at dell is back

I seen this monitor at BB today and the contrast seems very poor, doesn't look as flat as it could be, and the colors seem dull by comparison to apeture grille monitors (trinitron, nec/mitsubishi tubes, etc). Maybe it's just me, I could be wrong.

Help, slow frame rate 3DMark2001

I only get about 6500 at 1024x768x32 with image quality set at highest (no FSAA) on a visiontek ti200 @215/450. Yet what I find nice is i still get a score of around 5100 @ 1600x1200x32 + max everything (no FSAA) settings on a non overclocked 1.3 ghz tbird. Apparently I got a ti200 from an...

Need low-level format that works for more than just Maxtors.

I've always used WD Clear which is made for Western Digital drives, but works for any brand. Just search for wdclear.exe, download it, put on a bootable floppy, and run it from DOS.

Budget CD-RW recommendations

I can vouch for the Lite-On 12/8/32x burnproof drive that newegg.com sells. Has worked great for me and never had a bad burn. -Justin

3 pin/4 pin fan connectors...which to get? (300W Enermax PS, Epox 8K7A)

Your motherboard would have 3 pins, and your power supply cables 4. You should only need one adapter for your CPU fan (only if you have a high power cpu cooler like a delta black label) since most case fans connect 4/4 -- unless you're wanting to monitor your case fan's rpms. -Justin

Be careful with newer Dells

First of all burn a copy of C:\windows\options\install - this contains the full install of whatever OS your machine came loaded with (at least for win ME, may be C:\windows\options\cabs for 98) and doesn't contain all the extra crap they put on the recovery disk. I tested this on a friend...

I'd definitely go with the Panasonic over the Apex. I believe Apex is bankrupt or just closed up as their website hasn't worked in ages. Also read the Apex players have nothing but a standard PC DVD-ROM drive. The Panasonic player does indeed have DD/DTS outputs. It also has a powered subwoofer...

AMD more difficult than Intel?

I agree about MSI, my very first AMD system was started out with a MSI K7T Turbo and it was complete junk. After the second day of having it I couldn't get it to boot period and was giving me error codes as if my CPU was fried. Got an Iwill KK266 and all was well. -Justin

There maybe something wrong with your motherboard. I had a similar problem with an old system of mine and literally replaced everthing in the system except the board trying to solve my problem with no luck. My guess is there was something wrong with the AGP slot. I replaced it with an old Abit...

help, cant boot with 133 set anymore?

I had one do the same thing (1333 t-bird) on an MSI board. I thought the board was bad, got an IWILL -- same problem would only boot at 100mhz fsb (or wouldn't boot at all - 100 or 133). Sent the processor back to the guy I bought it from and it worked fine for him. He sent me a replacement CPU...

Trouble with floppy drive at boot

System crashed all the time with TNT2 Ultra in 3D mode.

I had a system with a TNT2 Ultra that was doing exactly the same thing and was fixed by when installing the 4-in-1 drivers making sure I selected "Normal" mode and not "Turbo. This for some reason set the card at AGP 1x and all was fixed. I believe I was using the latest detonator...

Who Makes Your Geforce2 and How is the 2d Quality? What Res?

32MB Elsa Gladiac GTS here. 2D looks great up to 1280x1024 @ 75hz, but starts to degrade after that as my monitor will only do 1600x1200 @60hz max (looks crappy that high) and only a 17inch Diamondtron. -Justin

The only two things I have checked are: "Use fast linear-mipmap-linear filtering" and "Use anistrophic filtering". As mentioned above, turn off antialiasing for best preformance. -Justin

1) Get the AMD AGP drivers 2) Did you do a fresh format/install of ME? 3) Are you sure v-sync isn't set to 'always on' in your nvidia display settings (control panel). If so, set it to 'always off'. If your monitor is set to do 85 mhz refresh and v-sync is on you'll get a max of 85 fps. -Justin

I split beer on a keyboard last week and it done similar things the "zxcvbnm,./" row of keys were being read as the home row "asdfghjkl;". I think it fried something, cleaning didn't help. -Justin
