Looking for a Guide

I'm about to build my new system and it's been a couple of years since my last build. Does anyone know of a really good "checklist" or FAQ/Guide for new builds? Something that might include details about WinXP and how to reformat the drive properly. (Yes, in case you can't tell I'm a noob...

Video Card Advice - TI4200 4X?

That really suprises me. So even at 4X and 64MB the TI4200 is still far and away better than the FX5200/5200U etc? I would have thought that a 4x card in an AGP 8X slot would slow the board down a bit, but I must have been quite mistaken. OK...let me ask you this then...would I be better off...

Double check your security settings. See what it has listed for Internet. Also, double check the advanced settings under security. It's coming from somewhere in there.

I can no longer use ICQ, Windows Media player, or Real audio player due to program errors. (i'm running win2k).

Sounds like a problem with the registry of media files. Try a reinstall of Windows MEdia player and see if that helps.

I seem to recall that there is a piece of software that came with QuakeIII that will check your display drivers and provide upgrades for them. The issue is definetly with the video card drivers. I had the same problem with a Banshee, I got new drivers and everything was fine. The OS drivers...

I have to agree with CQuinn on this one. When I first came to these forums I was looking for technical issues with motherboards. Seeing strictly negatives about boards would have turned me off MSI. However, there were enough people posting the fact that they were able to get it working so...

Mobo onboard sound ?

If you install a new sound card, you will need to use it's ports. In order to get the new one to work, you have to disable the onboard sound via the BIOS so it will completely disable it. I'd definetly reccomend that. Get the SBLIVE Value at a little under $50 and you should be in good shape.

Need help choosing a mobo

For Athlon or Duron you really only have two choices as far as most are concerned. Either the Abit Kt7 or the MSI K7tPro2A. The Abit has 5 (I think) PCI, 1 ISA, and 4x AGP. The MSI is 6 PCI, no ISA and 4x AGP. It does however have onboard sound, but that's easily disabled via the BIOS. Take...

Password Changes in DUN/Win98

Highlight the connection in DUN. Go to the menu at the top called connections. Select settings. From there you will see a box checked that states "prompt for information before dialing". Take the check out of that box and hit ok. Now when you dial it will prompt for the password...

Scheduled Tasks in 2000

Does anyone know the trick to scheduled tasks in 2000? Every time I try to have something run at a scheduled time, it won't run due to the computer being in hibernation mode. I have disabled power management and the screen saver. I can't leave the station unlocked though. Any clues?

IRQ questions.

Try to modify it via safe mode. I seem to recall that works. Another option is looking into the BIOS and reserving an IRQ that you want to use for something else.
