That drive is the 5900 rpm on Amazon that is running the cheaper price. THe best price I have seen in the past 2-3 months has been on ebay via newegg for the 7200rpm version at $200 I am waiting for that to popup again.
Anybody ahve these in a zfs array or hardware raided? I am wnating to build a nas box, but I don't know if these would suffice or not. Mainly just media storage and recording from the tuners over the network.
I guess I should of been more clear. I also run a raid 10 on my office PC that stores all the business documents... as far as on the NAS it would be things like business application images, music, video. I also am vpn'd in to a datacenter 24/7 so anything as serious as tax documents or work...
Thanks for the links and suggestions guys. I haven't really made that many considerations when it comes to the case the system will go in. I am certainly open and the cases I have seen that you have posted l think look great. That fractal design looks ideal and would support future expansion...
What are your end device requirements and what kind of OS environment are you working with (and/or anticipate supporting)?
The OS environment in general are windows 7/8/8.1 machines. I stream all of the tv content onto the network and so this nas would serve as a place to store recordings...
So I am looking at building a NAS to store primarily media audio/video and stream them across the network. One big consideration I have is reducing power consumption and having a smaller form factor.
Mini-Itx Motherboard
Raid 5 or 6
Nas Drives 5 or 6
Preferably multiple gigabit...
I have an i5 nuc. I noticed it had an internal sata port. The question is what is the least intrusive method to power an external drive i you were able to get a sata cable off that port to the outside of the nuc?
Got a new NUC and it has no fan noise. Though the wireless card the Intel 7260 has terrible terrible speed. This is probably because it has a hd right over it. Has anybody seen any external antennae to connect to this card so maybe I could run a small line out of it somewhere to get real...
Fan noise from D54250WYK is so bad I think its defective. It looks like there have been others that have gotten ones with defective fans when I search the intel boards. Has anybody else gotten one of these nuc's? It really sounds like something is wrong with the bearings in the fan or...
I have mkv rips and also a blu-ray drive for actual discs. The DVR I wasn't sure if I would use some kind of external usb drive connected to the nuc or send the data to my main pc for storage. Another thought is to get a larger msata and just drop it on there and remove the usb all together...
There is so much variety in the Nuc's out there its hard to figure out what I need. I am just looking for a media pc that can stream hd from the network and function as a dvr as well. Being able to stream 1080p FULL HD from the blu-ray in my main desktop is also something I would need. I was...
Man these Nuc's are blowing up. My plan, I think is going to be to get one of those homerun primes to stream tv onto the network and then use a nuc device like this as a media center and use it as a dvr as well. Anybody else have a setup like that?
I bought 2 of them and have them in a stripe and they work just fine. Its been about a month so far and they are in use a fair amount as they hold the mp3's and games I have. I don't know why people fret so much about dead drives based on a few opinnions.. typically the people that are pissed...
I would point my finger at the ram on the motherboard as well before I would point a finger at the video card or PSU. Make sure your seating the card in all the way. Your PSU has plenty of power for that 680.
Looking to get some feedback/links on a monitor to go with this galaxy gtx670 2gb OC card I got. Just built this computer and without a monitor spent somewhere between 1500-2k so I am looking for a solid 27" monitor to game on and do a lot of cisco contact center enterprise work on.. so plenty...
I am just doing a lot of reading and looking around so whatever links or solid suggestions anybody has would be great with regards to a 27" nice monitor to go with my gtx670 and a resolution of 2560x1440 at least.

that review is what im talkin about in the conclusion they mention gaming but they didnt run it at its native resolution so the determination they make regarding the refresh rate being to slow for gaming...
