W2k peer networking problem - who has it working?

MrChicken -- forgotten how to ping. How do I ping another lan computer? I've got progs. that ping remote locations setup on the laptop, but the Tbird isnt' that far along. This problem has sort of stopped me dead in my tracks in the application migration. Thanks heaps for making the effort.

MrChicken -- Netbios was in fact not turned on on the laptop. Win98se networking didn't need it with IPX/SPX turned on and the Client and File Sharing services bound to it. But I tried turning it on on the laptop, as well as on W2k on the TBird. No change, unfortunately. I wonder if there...

I'm REALLY stumped. I've rooted around in everything in W2k related to Networking that I can find and tried stuff without success. Since my W2k is an OEM version, Mr. Softie doesn't want to hear from me!!!

Yes, TCP/IP is turned on as well. (Wouldn't be able to get the internet over the lan without it.)

Raid channel as non-Raid???

You need both the Via 4-in-1 (and USB) drivers, and the Highpoint drivers. The Via ones cover everything else on the motherboard other than the Highpoint controller.

Best swap file size with huge ram

Well, I found the LinkSys to be about as easy to set up as you found the SMC. The one thing you have to know is the winipcfg release/renew trick. After that it's a piece of cake.

Could you point me a little more specifically where on MS's sites to download the patched version of fdisk? I've done quite a lot of rooting around, and haven't found it yet. Just reams of information on how much better Fat32 is than fat16, etc. A link would be wonderful. Thanks

They're about the same. I liked the Abit because its a little cheaper, and it has 6 pci slots. I'm filling five off the bat, and can think of several things I might get for the sixth slot. Asus only has 5. Get a raid. I'm using it raid, but even if not, the extra two IDE channels are nice...

Finally Got A good One!! T-Bird 1200 @ 1400MHz 140FSB

The Taisol 742xxx goes on and off fairly easily. I think its da bomb HSF. If you want to put a Delta 38cfm fan on it, then you can get it too to sound like a jet approaching takeoff. In that case nothing beats it for cooling. Nothing. But it also cools real good, just a couple of degrees...

An available ftp for a half day or something would be wonderful, if anyone has. (Or does anyone have a link to some site or freeware which could teach me how to turn myself into a temporary ftp???) I'm totally ignorant in that area. Do have a cable connect however, behind a linksys router.

Exact copy of hardrive to another hardrive.

Do you know if drive copy works to backup a 90gig with say five partitions to a 30 giger -- if the 90 only has say 15gigs of data on it at the time? Does Ghost work for that, anybody? Also which version of ghost do you have that doesn't support Win2k's ntfs? I'm wondering if the 6.0 home...

What's comes next after ATA-100?

Oh come on. Faster than a 15000rpm scsi drive? I love the IBM 75gxp's and all. Have two of them @45gb each in a building IDE Raid 0 array. But the fastest hard drives in the world??? Perhaps the fastest IDE's. Undoubtedly the fastest for the money, and damn high end in any event.
