I'm going to build a new computer around tax return time (March /April). What are Nvidia, AMD and MB mfg's expected to come out with in this timeframe? Mabye including early May as well. Right now I'm running with an 1.33GHz Athlon, 256 meg PC2100, and LeadTek GForce 2 Ultra. What do I need...

Whats your opinion of the best AMD motherboard out now??

I've been out of the computer building for awhile and haven't kept up. I'm planning on building another in March/April timeframe (tax return). Now that Nvida is making motherboards, is a video card still required for gaming? Is the built in video as good as the Ti4600?

Soy milk in schools (Poll) Yes/No? what.

Personally, I don't like the stuff. Tastes like a bean (big surprise). But my wife likes it. The kids, who aren't lactose intolerant, like it but drink whole milk too. The answer to your survey question boils down to cost for me. Property taxes here are outragous so if the schools can do it...

Good price on heatsink and fan?

Has anyone done or seen a comparison of fans? Last while monkeying with mine I broke one of the blades off. It still runs but needless to say , it's a "little" louder now. Noise usual iisn't a problem for me but this is too loud. With that said is there a list of fans somewhere that lists...

Thanx, Fat. What do you know about fans? From what I've seen, the Delta a noisy. Are the Sanyo Denki sny better? They have one that is 54CFM.

Good price on heatsink and fan?

My computer has been running hot lately and I think the bearing is going in the cheapo fan too. (1.33HGz nit overclocked, mid 60 to 70 C). I'm looking at the Alpha PAL8045 with a 68CFM Delta fan. The total (w/ shipping) on Pricewatch is 60.75 (20.75 fan and 40 HS). This this a good deal...

Help!! Core temp at 80C and crashing...

The paste has been bought. The MSI 6341 doesn't recognize anything higher than 1.0 without overclocking. I set the Freq. to 133 in the bios and then everything is fine until the power goes out. The bios doesn't "remember" this setting.

Help!! Core temp at 80C and crashing...

Found the problem (don't laugh), the heatsink was on backwards. I thought it was symetrical but it wasn't. The die wasn't centered on the bottom plate of th heatsink. Switch it back around, added some compound a the temp is back to a nice toasty 50 C (normal temp). I'm still thinking of...

Don't tell anyone but probably 3 or 4 times. I don't have any thermal paste but I suppose I could go to Radio Shack. The last time the heatsink was off was Sept/Oct.

Yeah, that would work great until I pinch a hose or one of the kids kicks the computer. If you saw the plumbing I did under the sink, you'd know why there's not going to be any water coolers in my case. :>)

Yes they do/did. I asked for some regular AMD Athlon stickers and they threw in some XP's as well. Got them for free in the mail. I think the link I used was in Hot Deals forum.

What is the best damn monitor out there!!!

If your monitor is purple you have a speaker too close to it (magnetic field). See if your monitor has a de-gauss option. If so, use that. If not you can probably find a de-gausser at Radio Shack ($10-$15??).

What is Firewire?

LXi I think I'm gettig to the problem now. In order to xfer a file doesn't the HDD have to "seek" where the file is? And also "seek" the info in the file? Or are you telling me there is a seek time and read/write time? In either case I thought the bottleneck was the drive not the pathway.

BrunoPuntzJones i think USB 1.0 is like 1.x megs a second, where firewire is something like 400. You were close; USB 12M , Firewire 400M. John Thanx for the link. I've only gotten as far as the above info but I am reading the rest now.

What are your favorite new games?

Any puzzle games? No one has listed the Myst series. I tried the Ghost Recon demo and liked it, I've tried Conquest; Frontier Wars demo and like it. I'm not into the on-line stuff too much. Usually play the FSP until I coomplete them and then forget them. Too many people on-line play those...

What is Firewire?

My uncle does video editing and says he has a HDD plugged into it. I thought the bottleneck was the seek time of the drive not the xfer rate. What am I missing?

QUICK! need reasons why PCs are better than macs

Apple has the advantage in graphics intensive stuff. The Navy uses both Apple and PC's. The ordinary stuff is done on PC's while the photography and vieo stuff is done almost exclusively on Apple (these are very high end systems, i.e. $10K)

Any advantage to buying directly from Dell vs. CC or BB? I know you can configure your own on-line which is a plus. As for bad things about Dell, they have theworst commercials. I don't that Steve kid. :>)
