Actually, the run fiber right to your house. That part of the install was done 2 days after my order. Part two was installing the box on the house, the UPS in the garage, and the ethernet from the box to my designated spot in the house.
Yeah, I forgot I was connecting to my legacy news server which has more groups, but pretty weak download speeds. Switched to the Verizon server using new reactor and all is well. Still thinking about getting GigaNews...
Ok, anyone have suggestions on a nice large download to test this on...
Got it installed today. Not surprisingly the Verizon test verified the 5/2. Ran a couple at DSL Reports and that pretty much confirmed the speed.
So far surfing the web it is really snappy. Newsgropups appear to be limited at the server :(
Anyone have a suggestion on a friskey news...

Strangely enough my cousin is a general contractor in FL where they are installing FIOS, and yes they are "nicking" all sorts of other infrastructure on a daily basis. In the last few months when they were working around here I have noticed the need to reset the clock on my...
Update:
Contractor marked installation route on Thursday and dropped the fiber optic cable in yesterday (Friday). Interestingly enough the fiber optic cable has a bonded copper wire for detection purposes.
Got the call today from the fiber subcontractor. Need to confirm a date when the back yard will be unlocked.
Muadib, I'm in TX.
I'll be interested to see how they price video service. I understand they will be offering video at the beginning of Q2 and are training the sales staff on that...
Called this morning. Install date of 1/28 with a 4 hour install time. Apparently the local trucks will pull the fiber to the house before the installer arrives and they will install a new phone box to replace the existing copper wire box. They install a battery backup to power the unit...
Just got the letter early last week and a follow up call on my answering machine Friday. Guess I'll call and see what the install schedule looks like. Appears as though they need CAT5 from the outside box to the router at the primary PC.
My hope is that I will finally be able to unbond my...
Funny thing is that Tartget did this a long time ago and call the associated grocery store "Country Club". Ever notice how some really old target stores have a bridge between the two store sections? Anyway most of them leased the Country Club section long ago so now you have a separate...
Not sure how hot this is, but just got back from Target and picked up a 5" Audiovox/Eddie Bauer VHS VCP for $50+tax. Includes both car and home adapters as well as a snake nest of hooks and straps to fasten it in your vehicle. Marked as 75% off. Has a set of inputs and a DIN in the back for...
Basically it said that the newspaper ad was a misprint, published 99.99-40.00=59.99. Nor MIR, so they would honor the 59.99 in store.
Probably a local typo... or story, not sure. At any rate, since the MIR is directly off the Maxtor web site it looks pretty good to me.
Irving is $59.99 same model as on the linked rebate. Plenty in stock, look for the photocopy sheet hanging below the drives explaining how the newspaper ad was wrong. All marked $99.99, but it rings up at the register.
Missed it by one day...
"Offer good on purchases made between 5/9/03 and 5/15/03 at Fry's electronics or Outpost.com"
I guess the $34 would still work since there is a $20 through 5/24.
Was there yesterday and figured this would be posted already.
Great deal on mens dress microfiber slacks if your size is still available. Pretty much wrinlke free low maintenance for $11/pair. Hard to beat, especially in big/tall sizes. Look for the Savine Silkworks line.
In general they all had a similar theme with unique but gruesome details:
Otherwise intelligent person puts in a set of contacts which were either never fitted for them, as the case generally is for the cosmetic contacts, or purchased form a non professional by someone who thought they knew the...
FYI, as a follow up to soft solution vs rigid.
My optomotrist is on the Texas board and since I converted to rigid lenses has said rigid lenses can use soft lens solution but not vice versa. I tried the rigid solution samples and asked him if it was Ok to go back to my old favorite soft lens...
Mine shows "48x12x50 CD-RW". Included Nero was a stinker to install, but I think that had more to do with the AOpen drive. Included 5.5.08 software hade to be upgraded to 5.5.10 to even place the icons... was installing over 5.0. It's working now and all I hve to do is burn off all my old...
Still have one of these, pleased but not overwhelmed by it. Yes, it is heavy, bulky, slow. Image quality is fair, sometimes it has a hard time locking focus.
The up side? LS-120. Stores near 500 images on one disk, battery life requires a second battery. If you have a SuperDisk already it...
I am setting up an A7V133 motherboard and I just can't get the Promise RAID array working.
I plan on partitioning and running Win98SE and 2000Pro booting form the RAID 0, but can't get it to recognize the drive. I have a Western Digital 60gig set up in a removable tray for now and have that...
Out of the 50% off keyboards locally, but I did get an HP 9350i CD-RW 10x4x32 for $24.68 out the door from the clearance table. New & sealed, no rebate hassle.
Might be a fluke, but if you are there looking for a keyboard check it out.
Thanks for the deal dajo. Picked one up on my way home right as the store was closing.
May not be the one I use in my OC machine, but I can sap 'em around and experiment. It's about time to do a fresh reload on the home machines again anyway.
Might want to look in to this thread about a geeks package which appears to include the 4 channel version of this card with USB speakers and a CD-ROM.
Been pondering this for a few days just made the connection while reading the specs on the muktimedia kit.
I think this thread is discussing the relative merits of this sound card in all of it's variants.
Decided to get it & some other stuff to complete a partial machine I have been working on. Not bad to complete a simple system.
As far as Genica is concerned, I'll risk my $ on this before one of...
Matt L,
Don't know much about Terk's other than they are expensive and seem to be endorsed on the DBS boards. Is this GE better?
I like the idea of this type of antenna, but could never cough up the $$ for a Terk, just plain don't like TV that much.
<< I personally give most of my business to JR's and Holts. >>
Amen, been picking up alot of Upmanns at JR's lately. Yummy!!!
It would be nice to get a deal on Red Dots, they are a fine cigar. I would still prefer La Glorias, these would probably be an occasional alternative.
