The GS500 is a great choice if it runs well, any carbureted bike is going to be trouble if you don't ride it often enough to keep the carbs clean. As soon as you decide to go with a fuel injected bike, +1000 on the SV650. Had one for 10 years, only issues I ever had were the shifter linkage...
My old beater Camry will turn on the compressor if the dial is set to defrost, but not if it is set to def and floor. Have to hit the button then. I have owned several cars in the past that did not automatically engage A/C for defrost at all. Most of the fleet pickups I have driven for the last...
It took a bit to start drawing me in, but I found myself reading faster and for longer periods as I went. Very well written and I was looking forward to book two by the end.
Definitely give it a go if you enjoy epic fantasy.
Just drove one about a month ago. Power is plentiful, as is torque steer. Shifter among the best I have ever used, handling and ride acceptable. Room in the rear seat is hilariously pathetic, front feels a bit claustrophobic as well.
Look at a GTI if reliability doesn't scare you, a Civic Si if...
Lots of great discussion, I'll add one more crazy factor to the list.
Diesel evaporates much more slowly than gasoline, which means your Mom/wife/girlfriend gets it on her shoes when she fills up, which means she smells like it until she changes her shoes. She is completely unamused by this...
Car looks great, if only I could get it with a gasoline engine, and without the stupid ipad center stack, for a reasonable price...
But then it would be a different car. Good job Motor Trend.
I bought a Deck keyboard for my wife several years ago, best keyboard either of us have ever seen.
I think it is essentially a backlit Das, so if you don't want lighting the Das should be just as sweet.
I am just thrilled it still can be had with a stick, and Honda has passed on the high beltline, tiny window stupidity that afflicts almost everything else. I like to see out of the car without cameras, am I the only one left?
No stick with the V6 is disappointing, as is the EPS, but those are...
I can't remember buying RAM that didn't have a lifetime warranty. Look into it if for no other reason than to sell some DDR2 off to someone who needs it.
I am 6' 5". If I could fit in a Miata I would've bought one years ago. I sat in a BRZ a week ago and was comfortable. Visibility seemed acceptable even, but I'll know more when I drive it.
Cross shopped most everything with three rows for about 18 months, Taurus X is lighter than most, simpler, knocks back 23MPG consistently for us, and is cheap as can be on the used market, being completely unloved.
Not as sporty driving as the CX-9 but roomier inside and probably 30-40%...
I'd be looking at a Grand Vitara on your budget. Sidekicks were a good little rig but too light and too short wheelbase to drive at anything over 25MPH on snow covered roads. GV should put you in 4WD for cheap.
I am needing to find some garnet paper as well, that or keep turning/replacing rotors every 10k on my POS Celica. Just recently did it again and sprang for new EBC pads, complete fluid flush and replace, still happening.
grumble, grumble, grumble
The Subaru option would be my first choice, but you could keep an eye out for a used RAV-4 as well. Faster and more efficient than most of the cute-utes, maybe one of the last Toyota's made to be appealing. The V6 model is a hot-rod and still gets Subie like mileage.
6' 5" here and I am more comfortable on sportier bikes, generally speaking. I am riding an SV650 now which is a great inexpensive little bike, despite the comically bad suspension, so-so brakes, and rabid fanboys.
The Suzuki and Kawasaki 500's are probably even better bets, or any older UJM if...
Synthetic or dino is not as big a deal as shear resistance and lack of wet clutch slipping friction modifiers. Switch back and forth all you like between dino and synthetic, it won't harm a thing. Mix them if you like, that's what synthetic blends are.
People usually change their motorcycle...
Fairly reliable, torquey, easy-ish to fix. I had one for my first streetbike, rode it for five years. It will pull to one side because of the shaft drive but not so much as to be a problem, and it is a top-heavy, awkward bike until you get used to it.
Great bike to learn on though, too slow to...
Maybe I am in the minority, but I think that may be the ugliest car I have ever seen. I think putting a GM brand on a Daewoo that will likely be a first timers car is a great way to permanently send people to Honda/Toyota. They've been doing this since the mid '80's, and it works almost every time.
In person the B-King looks like a delivery van from the front, and a power rangers toy from the rear. Sitting on it felt awkward as hell (I did not ride it, it may be better in motion). I was considerably less enthusiastic about it after seeing it up close. I think there is a point where adding...
V-Strom is great, Bandits are great, an old FZ1 or FZ6 would be great. If you aren't averse to getting something older, any of the old standards would be good for very little money. Suzuki GS850-1100, Yamaha XS, Honda CB750-1000, etc...
Been riding regularly on the street for 7 years now, and I am on my second bike. I sold the first one ('79 Honda CX500) in the same condition I bought it in, and for the same money ($600), and I did not ever lay it down. Ride like you have a brain, and like every other person on the road does...
Sportbikes have a higher fatality rate because people get comfortable and ride them too fast. Also, someone with something to prove is more likely to buy a sportbike to engage in peenwaving. The flipside is that a cruiser actually is far less capable of avoiding an accident at any speed, they...
Ride if you love riding, and enjoy the good fuel economy. If saving money is your concern, don't do it. Once you factor in tires, gear, time spent cleaning chain, money blown on slip-on/windscreen/highway pegs/whatever, etc... you are better off driving an economical car.
That being said, I'd...
Hmm, I am 6' 5" and I am riding a SV650 (a girls bike, by most opinions). I should probably stop grinning like a fool and leaning through the corners, grow up and get a touring bike.
Maybe next year.
Very nice bike though, glad you are enjoying it.
Go to a local bike night, observe the numbers of old motorcyclists. Get your riding tips from those guys, not the guy wheelying the smashed F4i in shirtsleeves in the parking lot. You'll be fine.
Seriously though, don't drink and ride, limit night riding, don't race, wear your gear, die a...
I'd try the Ruckus if you can find a used one, they are very cheap and supposedly quite durable. Really the ideal bike for you would be a 70cc Super Cub, but you'd have to move overseas to get a new one.
Oh, and since not many are saying it, kudos on taking the classes! Go to newenough and hit the closeouts and you won't need to spend 1K on gear, 4-500 should hook you up if you aren't too picky about colors/styles.
I didn't see you list how big you actually are, but I am happily riding a SV650 at 6' 5" and 220#. Frequently my wife goes two-up with me, and other than butts going to sleep the bike laughs it off. I rode dirtbikes for years, then an old CX500 for 5 years before I got the SV, and I feel...
The SV is not my first pick for a first bike though, get an old CX500 like I did and beat around on it for a few years, then the SV will seem like God's gift to motorcycling.
P.S. Anyone want an old CX? ;)
The DL650 V-Strom is the same engine, and I think mostly the same chassis/brakes/etc... It will ride a lot different sitting taller, having frame mounted fairing, different suspension and all, but the engine is just as brilliant for an adventure bike as for a standard.
Aftermarket you can get some electronics, and exhaust kits. Some people swear by a process known as "desnorkeling" the air cleaner, although it doesn't seem to do much besides make the bike noisier. The bike doesn't really need any more power to be a great bike, which is good because there is...
I ride an '03 SV650, absolutely in love with it but I agree with you on the seat. The wife has it worse than me sitting up on that tail. Corbin and Sargent both make great seats, and I am told you can special order them with an inch or so of additional height which sounds great to me. There is...
That should be a good card, keep an eye on temps though, may want an aftermarket cooler. Not going to get any faster on AGP unless the rumored 3850 AGP shows up but there is no solid info on that yet that I have seen.
No you will not, much like XP you may need to call them after reinstalling a few times for them to reset the activation count. There was some FUD that flew around a while about it but I have read in a couple places a spokesman for MS saying the activations will be allowed under the same...
Cowon iAudio G3 is a great little unit, uses AA, plays several formats (including ogg) and sounds great. about 120 for the 1GB at Amazon last time I looked.
