    AMD Releases Catalyst 12.1 Drivers

You must realize known issues are often very rare issues in specific circumstances/configurations that most users will never encounter.

ATI scaling issue greyed out options.

For what it's worth, I have to be in non-native resolution for the option to select scaling methods to not be greyed out. I seem to recall the option stopped working for me once, and after clean uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers for a different reason it started working again. You...

Since each of the GPU's is on its own memory bus it needs a local copy of everything. Even on a dual GPU card.

    Eyefinity and my rig

Correct. Just use a DisplayPort cable. Also the adapter you ordered from Newegg doesn't look like an Active adapter. It should say Active on it if it is, and it should cost $25-$30 for a single link active adapter. If you still can, you should cancel that order, and order a DisplayPort...

    Eyefinity and my rig

It needs to be an Active DP->DVI adapter. Not sure which one you have. But if it's passive it won't cut it. The GPU can only send 2 DVI/HDMI signals at once, the rest have to be native DisplayPort, so you need an active adapter that can take a DP signal and convert it to DVI. A passive one...

    Non-native resolutions and hardware scalers

Go into your video driver settings (CCC or nVidia control panel) and find the option for GPU Scaling, and enable it. This will make the GPU scale your resolution to the monitor's native resolution as a hardware scaler would. It's actually faster than a monitor's scaler is so it's always...

Anybody know if there is single-GPU 3-monitor support without displayport or FLEX?

You could wait for a dual GPU keppler. All the dual GPU nVidia cards can run 3+ monitors native DVI.

    Screen Tearing Eyefinity

Eyefinity mode means the monitors are 'grouped' into 1 large desktop. In CCC -> Desktop Management it would show up as 1 very wide desktop. You can go in there and right clicked the desktop layout and selected 'Create Group' to set up Eyefinity. Eyefinity is really meant for gaming, no real...

    Screen Tearing Eyefinity

You should only get the screen tearing if you are in Eyefinity mode. If you are in extended desktop mode, you shouldn't get tearing on any of them. If you are in Eyefinity mode, you can go into CCC -> Desktop Management, then at the bottom of that page it should have your 3 monitors listed...

    Screen Tearing Eyefinity

I actually get the same thing. Apparently the problem is, if using mixed connections (some DVI, some DP), one of them will not be able to be v-synced. The ATI CCC actually has an option for which Eyefinity monitor you want to be the 'primary' and get the best quality (ie guaranteed v-sync)...

looking for a new 23-24" monitor

No, but if you're gaming the sizes won't match up quite right so it will look a little weird. You also won't be able to turn on bezel compensation. If you're using monitors you already have sitting around it's something you can live with but if buying new I'd try to match up size as best you can.

looking for a new 23-24" monitor

If you're going to use it in actual Eyefinity for gaming you should try to match one of your others. Look for a 22" or 24", and get one with native DisplayPort if one of your other monitors doesn't already have it. Also if you don't mind used, I could sell one of my Dell 23" p2310h but it...

    PC gaming on plasma?

600Hz is sort of a marketing gimmick. Since the pixels are directly illuminated by glowing plasma, the plasma is constantly excited (refreshed!) to keep the pixel lit up. Through some magic math where the screen is divided up and the plasma 'refresh' rate is added together you get 600...

    Feedback on triple monitor setup.

I have 3 1920x1080 23" monitors. I think I would've been happier with 3 1680x1050 monitors. 3 x 16:9 is wider than necessary in landscape and too narrow when used in portrait. Also the lower pixel count of 1680x1050 would let me run at higher settings. I still love the setup though. I...

Displayport problem, vid card or monitor?

I had a DisplayPort cable from monoprice that I had issues with, did some reading and found that Monoprice DP cables were missing one of the extra ground pins and had strange issues. This was a year or 2 ago though so idk if they ever fixed the cables. I got a different cable and everything...

    Xbox 360 Mic options?

I currently have my Xbox 360 audio going through my PC so that I can share my PC speakers and/or headphones with it. Since I usually wear headphones though I have to wear the Xbox mic headset around my neck and it's clunky. What I'd like to do is use a PC desktop mic or at least a throat mic...

Why does nvidia cheat so much?

Settlements are usually reached because there is enough proof presented that one side is obviously going to extract at least x amount of dollars. It's safer to settle because a jury or judge may award far more than that. Civil suits aren't really about guilt or innocence but compensation for...

Do I need an active or passive DP->VGA adapter?

Yes that arrangement would work. Any kind/brand DP->VGA adapter will do the job. I believe most the brands are just rebrands from a single supplier or two so I don't think there's a quality difference between them for the most part. These adapters are inherently a bit flaky though so there's...

    Battlefield 3 at 1280x1024

The aspect ratio affects your FOV though, and 5:4 is about 2/3 of 16:9 by width, which is what will be cut off to make the FOV narrow enough to fit a square monitor (since DICE makes hor+ engines).

Why does nvidia cheat so much?

Well if we're making oversimplified, terrible analogies.. Santa: "Here Kid A, this action figure also has a more unrealistic jumping motion!" Kid A: "That seems cool! Hey Kid B check this out!" Santa: "NO! DO NOT SHARE THAT TOY WITH KID B. IT WILL BREAK IF KID B TOUCHES IT!" Kid B...

    Eyefinity woes

    1) I had some black screen issues caused by my cable, switching cables fixed that. However I would get off the active adapter as well. They can be finnicky even if you have the firmware updates for them. Pick up that miniDP->DP cable from monoprice. 2) When I used presets I often had to...

GTX 580 to ATI Eyefinity 3-1 setup

The adapter you want is a single link active DisplayPort -> DVI. Those are about $30. The $100 are dual link active DisplayPort -> DVI adapters. There are also passive adapters for around $30 that you need to avoid. If you already have a GTX 580 seems like a 2nd one of those would be the...

    Crysis 2 Tessellation Article

I believe Extreme just turns tessellation off on water, which somewhere was noted gave a noticeable performance boost, thus verifying that the invisible tessellated water is impacted performance for nothing. So if you want tessellated water at the harbor you need Ultra water, but will hit...

ATI 6970 - Won't use all available memory?

The Radeon 6970 has 2GB of RAM running at 1375 MHz clock speed. That slider you're adjusting in MSI Afterburner is the clock speed the 2GB of memory is running at, not how much of it to use.

    Crysis 2 Tessellation Article

    Crysis 2 Tessellation Article

Maybe because it was easier to use 1 64x tessellation map on a single object, even the parts that don't need it. Maybe nVidia only helped with the tessellation engine and Crytek just did a bad job with updating the models to take advantage of it. Maybe nVidia didn't have anything to do with...

    Crysis 2 Tessellation Article

For what it's worth, I highly doubt there's any sort of conspiracy. They must've designed the engine in a way that a single object can only have 1 level of tessellation. At that point it would've been a lot easier to take to already existing 'barricade' object and make a tessellation map for...

    Crysis 2 Tessellation Article

Again.. and again.. there are benefits to higher tessellation, just not on flat surfaces or invisible water. You don't lose any image quality by clamping tessellation factor on flat surfaces or invisible objects so that's not an issue. Whether there is a difference in image quality between...

    Setting up dual monitors problem

If you have a motherboard that isn't too old, you can go into the BIOS and force it to keep the on board graphics enabled even when a PCI-e graphics card is detected. On AMD the option is called SurroundView, I don't remember what the option is called on Intel chipsets. Without that option...

AMD HD 7***: wait or upgrade now

If you're using a DisplayPort cable from Monoprice, they used to have a design flaw that could give some issues (it was missing one of the grounding pins). I don't know if they ever fixed it, but after I replaced my Monoprice cable I never had an issue with my DisplayPort monitor again.

Trouble in Paradise [No POST, Hard Shutdown, perhaps GPU related?]

It actually sounds like a bad PSU to me. I had one dying on me that on boot it would take 15 minutes of power cycling to get it to get to POST then it would be ok for a few hours then crash and make me power cycle for 15 minutes again. After a couple months of that it would never make it to POST.

I don't know, the DA2 issue was something everyone recognized needed to be fixed just like this poorly implemented tessellation is something that should be fixed. Think about it.. if they kept the tessellation on the important parts of that barricade and reduced the tessellation on the flat...
