Reccomendations for 10/100 card for college

For win2k...the Linksys works great, just make sure you have a v4 card and you have drivers ready. Dlink worked flawlessly out of the box, didn't need drivers, and of course, 3COM's are always top-notch (you can set your own MAC address etc).

I have 512MB of RAM in my system... can I disable Virtual Memory?

Whitedog, Win9x kernel can absolutely use more than 128mb of RAM, however, "effectively" is quite a relative term. Just because the OS cannot use the memory effectively does not mean that applications that run within it cannot also. Try playing UT or HL with a heapsize of over 200,000...

Major, major problem....

Hmmm, lets see how this all started. Was just getting back to my comp after taking a nap, and I groggily (and accidentally) hit the sleep button on my MS keyboard (should've disabled the thing a long time ago). So, my screen goes blank, etc etc. I move the mouse, hit keys to try to bring it out...

Dave, just see how low you can go, and depending on what type of proggies you use, you might be required to set it higher. It is recommended, however, to go below 40-60mb VM...

element...as it's been said, the swapfile was meant for a DOS environment when the user had 4mb RAM, 8mb if he was wealthly, and 16mb if he was god. With 4mb of RAM, you needed a 10-15mb swapfile for daily use. Since RAM is so cheap, and thus incredibly plentiful, VM sizes should be quite a bit...

Boomslang 2000, yes or no?

I've had my bmslang2k for a little over a year now...best mouse I've ever owned, and there's no way I can use another for gaming...I highly recommend it.

Overclockerz / OCZ : Horrible business practices!

AntiSoc, not a 2200RPM drive...I meant minus 2200RPM as in the drive was a 30gb 5400RPM drive instead of 20gb 7200RPM....with the density of most platters nowadays, RPM is starting to make less difference (still a helluva lot more than the UDMA rating)...believe me, I didn't get ripped.

BC, the NIC has already been registered, and so far, the connection only works on that NIC. Does that mean that they will have to purge the IP before I can clone it with the router?

Can I still use Napster to download with a Cable Router and no port forwarding ?

To get incoming requests to go through, you need to specify the specific ports in the popular/special applications section in your web browser properties (http://192...whatever)...what I don't know (regarding ICQ and AIM) are what the incoming ports are...
