  1. Do I have a virus?

This red warning is definitely very popular, I have already seen it three or four times, including this blog. Nevertheless, what you should keep in mind is that the appearance of this alert means that you are infected with potentially unwanted program. Typically, such ads are related to adware...
  2. how to block a website on Computer ?

Plenty of add-ons that can do that in the browser, Browser configurations, even router configurations. There is no easy go to. It depends on what you need I recommend researching the topic. As per post above.... Google it?
  3. Firefox fights Back

As far as I can tell WebExtensions is a great API and limits features that add-on developers shouldn't have. Unfortunately, it also limits some functionality here and there.
  4. Upgraded PC, but what about Operating System?

I can second peoples opinions. I doubt you will have a chance to activate it on another device. It will be a little bit more expensive but a lot fewer troubles simply getting a fresh Windows 10 copy.
  5. uBlock Now "Legacy" in FF. What to switch to?

I am fairly certain that uBlock is no on WebExtension API? I had a couple of people report to me saying that it was properly rewritten, not too sure about it though.
  6. Firefox fights Back

I guess I will be one of the few people who stuck to Chrome extensively and only occasionally touch Firefox for development purposes.
  7. 'Onliner' malware spambot targets 711 million email accounts

Not surprising really. We don't have any education in schools about malware threats, people hardly know that there are malware researchers who report about threats daily and cyber security is an actual issue. Until we start actively enforcing, or at least convincing people to educate themselves...
  8. uBlock Now "Legacy" in FF. What to switch to?

I assume there is going to be a lot more plugins who are getting remade in WebExtension. However, as far as I am aware, a lot of developers are bailing out completely, which is unfortunate.
  9. Can you use file backup to recover entire drive or not?

In the past, I would have recommended CrashPlan (Hopefully, someone can find a way to make an old version work on a decentralized network), right now Acronis or Storegate craft. Free versions? No clue, I would need to do extensive research on that topic. I haven't explored free backups.
  10. Novice security questions

Speaking of bumps and mouse movements. I had a bad wire on my mouse, which was causing my mouse to activate on occasion. With the addition of faulty keyboard drivers and I figured out that's why my copy of Windows was waking up. Also walking around and unstable table can force Windows to wake...
  11. Trying out Kaspersky Anti-Virus? Won't install. Help?

Not sure why people are calling Kaspersky "Crapware" or bad in any way when it was at pretty much top of the charts for decades when it comes to protection. Try booting into safe mode and installing Kaspersky there. If that doesn't work, make sure you remove any antivirus solution you have right...
  12. Any victims of Wanacry here?

Was surfing through older posts and I saw this. Felt compelled to provide my input. There are unfortunately no decryptors for this and probably won't be there for quite a while. I have seen people posting fake information that there are, avoid it. There are new vulnerabilities constantly...
  13. Intel hd 2000 driver for Windows 10 (Solved)

I would strongly advise against downloading software from third party vendors. Just go to official Iobit website and get the required software there. Just a fair warning, that driver booster doesn't actually do that much, it might be slightly convenient at times.
  14. What happens if you disable JavaScript?

Good to know you found a solution. I will give that combination a shot myself, haven't tried smart JS disabling and private plugins, couldn't hurt to experience them.
  15. No active Antivirus folks, give me your input

Even discounting that, It has been proven multiple times that AV does work. And even if it doesn't protect against all of the threats, that doesn't mean you don't need to use it. Just having it on your PC gives a much better sense of security. Maybe they are not even doing much, occasionally...
  16. What happens if you disable JavaScript?

While it might not be the worst idea of all time to disable Javascript entirely, It is not that great. Pretty much every single website uses that, for various tasks. Limiting potentially malicious code execution on your browser can be useful, completely disabling is going to "break" the pages.
  17. No active Antivirus folks, give me your input

Well, isn't that the point of AV? To prevent user mistakes? You will never be 100% aware all of the time. Humans bound to make mistakes. And no AV will protect you 100%, which is why a combination of both will give you very strong results. Just my opinion.
  18. Intel hd 2000 driver for Windows 10 (Solved)

Best bet in these scenarios is to try downloading drivers of a different OS, earlier or older one in hopes that the Legacy support kicks in and you won't have issues. A lot of Win8 and even some Win7 drivers work on Windows 10. All you can do is try.
  19. FBI advises companies to drop Kaspersky Lab as it is filled with Russian spies

The more this continues, the more I can't understand, why pursue Kaspersky to such lengths. Sure, a lot of employees are for government workers, but there are LITERALLY no real strong evidence that they are doing what FBI is implying.
  20. No active Antivirus folks, give me your input

I am with you on that one. I don't disagree, after all, a majority of users are simple and not as tech savvy, they are driving the market and paying products. So presenting them with acceptable statistics and facts is more than enough. In regards to testing methodology, I would like to see that...
  21. After an OS reinstall my games became EXTREMELY slow.

And I haven't seen anyone mention to check drivers? I understand that Windows might install drivers automatically, but it doesn't hurt to double check. Additionally, upon a fresh install, wait a little bit and remove bloatware, don't start downloading games and going into them, it takes some...
  22. 1 CPU 2 Users

I'll agree with people's opinions on this one. Not really doable for solid use. You would essentially get 2 systems that are subpar, without actually enjoying the experience. You need far greater specs. New Ryzen processors is a good start. A couple GPU's, a solid, capable motherboard would do...
  23. No active Antivirus folks, give me your input

And the matter of the fact is, you can't determine the best anti-virus. Sure, it might be the best right now, in a month or two, numbers are going to switch massively. We all know that no anti-virus solution will protect you 100%, Common Sense Anti-virus 2017 is a very viable security solution...
  24. Novice security questions

Before going to sleep put your PC on a 1-minute sleep timer? Spaghetti solutions at its finest. Okay, I did more testing, my copy of Windows even woke up from Hibernation, this is concerning. I doubt malware is the issue, as I work extensively in the industry and my practices are good enough...
  25. Novice security questions

Interestingly enough, I have the same issue with my desktop. It randomly wakes up for no apparent reason. No mouse movement, screen inputs, but I do have a solid handful of cables connected to it. I wonder if it has something to do with the drivers? Maybe running services while the PC is sleeping?
  26. Which programme for this please ?

I'll second Ratman's opinion. 10 years is a massive difference in the IT industry. Consider how many iterations of technology we went through in a short period of time, it is rather scary.
  27. Powerful backdoor found in software used by >100 banks and energy cos.

And you wouldn't be wrong PliotronX :D Surprising how products are hijacked like that. I wonder if it was production or source code implementations. The latter is far more dangerous. I am glad they sorted out the issues regardless. Gets me wondering though, how many hijacked pieces of software...
  28. Which programme for this please ?

Despite that fact that you could probably do a simple google search on this topic and get a million results and software for this particular purpose, I would also recommend the ultimate solution to business problems and graphs. Excel..... it does excel at what it does! *Puns may or may not be...
  29. Researchers report >4,000 apps that secretly record audio and steal logs

A peak of human..... "improvement". Also, I was just about to be done with being paranoid about my privacy. Thanks, Chief, another couple months of panic for spyware apps to the rescue. Not surprising really, many of the applications request a ridiculous amount of permissions and people still...
  30. Need a new password? Don't choose one of these 306 million

Regards to public Wi-fi's completely agreed. I usually have everything sandboxed and only certain connections to the websites that I need available. Going as far as not logging in to anything and using private browser modes. To be fair, it doesn't happen as much as people think it might, but it...
  31. Firefox fights Back

I am actually interested how these versions of Firefox will do in the future. I am still skeptical about using any 3rd part "ACTUALLY PRIVATE" browsers. As I am not sure about how much they actually keep private, and how much data is being filtered elsewhere.
  32. AD company files DMCA to remove their company's URL from ad-blocking software

Mike actually made me laugh with his last remark :D Unfortunately, I can understand that way too much. Neither laws nor the actual concept of DMCA as I have mentioned previously allow for such actions. ADBLOCK TO THE RESCUE! Even more so than ever....... Can we finally have established, normal...
  33. Firefox fights Back

Opera is still quite relevant. Surprisingly, it's been hammering very solid amount of features. Inbuilt VPN and Adblock both proven to be quite effective at their duties respectively. Although, it still pops up with issues once in a while. Full rewrite of Mozilla would be crazy expensive...
  34. Top Security Firm May Be Leaking 'Terabytes' of Confidential Data From Fortune 100 Companies

It's only a data security leak of private and crucial information to peoples lives.... What could possibly go wrong? #Sarcasm The irony when security firms are insecure. I hope they can clean this mess as this is a huge blow to their reputation.
  35. AD company files DMCA to remove their company's URL from ad-blocking software

I do not think. Even the concept of DMCA is very conspicuous. They have some rules-ish more like guidelines and each matter is generally personalized. Also, we have our rights to privacy and security and they want to damage them with malicious ads? Until we have way more user-friendly ad...
  36. Need a new password? Don't choose one of these 306 million

It is only natural that passwords, in general, are a less secure measurement. With all of the techniques and capabilities that modern hacks expose, it is normal that security evolves past one device and one password. And even sequence of passwords is significantly more secure and adding other...
  37. After phishing attacks, Chrome extensions push adware to millions

They will now. I doubt this is going to be left behind. I mean developers did that to themselves not being careful, but a huge kudos to the phishing social engineers. Not sure if that is a good thing, but phishers are getting scarier.
  38. Adobe has killed Flash

Indeed, pretty much the same way when I visit other countries, I get content on their site and for the next couple weeks, I see weird ads. And my provider the same way sends me a message "Have a nice trip" When I connect to a mobile network in a different country, in the end, it comes down to...
  39. Best Media Player Classic alternative ?

Interesting, haven't heard of MPC-BE, I will do more research on that topic, in the mean time, how does it differ from a standard version?
  40. Adobe has killed Flash

Money is on information tracking every time. Nowadays, knowledge is everything and gathering intel in various legal or illegal ways is the way people are going nowadays because we are still struggling to establish proper formal digital rights. In any case, we are off topic here massively, I...
