I don't think Intel chips are overpriced. All data points to AMD chips being underpriced in order to break into the market and prove themselves. AMD desperately needs to start generating profit, so that they could reinvest it into the next gen tech. The design is risky, takes years of upfront...

Could any one kind soul please educate me on the 2nd figure in the post above. It seems to show that the temperature in the center is around 1100 Kelvin? Do chips really get that hot? My physics senses are all firing up and telling me that silicon transistors don't function at that temperatures...

Your hardware already looks to be top notch. I would probably consider looking into further software optimization instead of chasing the absolute best hardware on the market unless you have other reasons to. Then Skylake-X won't meet your requirements. Threadripper is rumored to support ECC...

I agree with you that usefulness of AVX-512 looks rather questionable when memory bandwidth is taken into account. In my prior experience with the HPC guys their large problems have always been limited by memory bandwidth and the node interconnect technology. That's why supercomputing companies...

I'm bailing on it as well. Thanks to Der8auer for the no-BS review of motherboards and CPU. All these companies need to get their Scheiße in order if they want to sell it as HEDT hardware. They spend time on RGB crap and can't even attach a proper heatsink to their VRM.

IMHO, it's the other way around: power induces rising temperature. You can only lower the thermal plateau with faster heat transfer but you can't magically waive off 160W that the die has dissipated. One way or another those 160W need to come out. So, let me rephrase my statement: what thermal...

I suspect some people may be setting themselves up for disappointment if they expect cool thermals from the 16 core TR. Linus tech tips had TR at 180W. Even if comes out with lower 160W it will still be about as hot as 7900X. There is no free lunch: more cores, more interconnects and higher...
