The reason i would rate Hondas V6s last is that i've had time with their old 2.7 to the 3.0-3.2L(haven't driven the Odysse 3.5, but i've also had time with a NSX 3.0 however it was in a manual),.. and they ALL lacked torque, i don't care what they're rated...

    Nah, i don't think its even a close comparison, to be honest, the V70R seems to me like a baby S4 Avant almost, 40 less hp and 50 ft/lbs.

    Test drove one last week with the I4/auto and I'll admit it look pleasantly striking(in your face styling) at first sight, however, after some 10 minutes of snooping around, in and out, it started looking worst and worst(ugly). I won't say much about how it drives except that the whole time...

    For those keep saying how 38K-40K is too much for a VW(Passat), I don't see much haggling when it comes to a 45K Acura RL which only has a 3.5L V6 and is FWD. Same with a 38K ES300 which is a trimmy Camry with fwd... or a 40K Toyota 4runner LIMITED(for soccer mom's its crude luxury at the least).

    About the Jetta being a Cavalier-class car, the Cavalier is a one trim car, the Jetta has many(1.8T, V6, 2.0). The baseline 2.0 Jetta with the same option of the Cavalier can be had for under 16K not much more than a Cavalier, moving up the scale doesn't have to mean a LARGER car...

    He's right though, the gas pedal are usually much overboosted(for various reasons that is besides performance as it really doesn't make the car any faster and ruins pedal feel). The brakes are well overboosted too.

    iirc, in economics a model called the "utilization maximum"(sp) helps to predict the efficiency of a economy based on a few things like productivity, technology, labor force etc... However, in modern times, the size of the labor force(or perhaps hours of work) is becoming less and less paramount...

    The W8 shouldn't EVEN be in this test, its not a sports sedan like the others, its a touring/luxury sedan and therefore the extra high weight and poor acceleration performance is not much of concern or relevance. Not that suprised it ranked last since its no sports sedan.

    A diesel's combustion is better they don't have to rely on spark plugs which are not always perfect(poor timing or fire).

    The power delivery of a diesel engine is very methodical and very smooth unlike with gas engines you don't find yourself pressing the pedal very hard at any time. Diesel drivers learn to go FAST by shifting where as gas drivers meshes the accelerater(for maximum hp), the first one is alot safer.

    I like the WRX wagon ALOT also however, with this car I am looking to keep it ALONG time(diesel lasts) and I like the durability and fuel economy of the TDI engine, jetta wagon tdi just works alittle better for me than the WRX wagon.

    Without a load revving the engine makes it spin tons faster than its supposed to spin, stresses all the parts. I am talking mainly about revving to say 5-6K rpms just to hear the engine note.

    If you rev while in neutral/park its also not good(cold or hot), without a load piston speeds are MUCH higher than it should be thus more wear.

    The GT1 is both the racer(LeMans) and the road going replica(basically the same car), both has the same name. The racer has a 3.2 quad cam flat-six and 640hp and the road model has iirc the same except with 550hp.

    There was a 360(Modena) and a GT3 side by side at a car show I was at and a guy next to me asked which one was better and I said the Porsche(GT3) was, more rare plus faster to boot.:) ED; I am probably biased because the GT3 happens to be my favorite super sports car.:)
