Question CPU COOLER Fan?

Sir William, I check my BIOS and yes indeed you are correctoe. Still, however, it requires a four pin header, since all PMW fans are four pin and will work only statically when plug into a three pin header.

Inteluser, I was thinking along the same lines. I quite sure his setting in the BIOS are set to default, as he is just a normal PC user.

My bad, Inteluser. I was referring to a Noiseblocker fan and not the Northbridge. The fan which is not working, is a three pin fan mount to the mamaboard. It is cooling the CPU cooler. I am a mistake by calling it a heat sink. :<(( Should it be running at all times?? It is in my rig...

Larry, thank you for the extended post. It was an interesting read, until I realized that I mislabeled the title of this thread. A CPU cooler is not a heat sink. Sorry about the confused I created.

IntelUser, this is a good idea. How about running a stress test as well? He could also go into his BIOS and set the CPU temperature warning alarm. There is certainly no advantage to the CPU cooler fan not running.

Installed the new replacement M/B (which Robert tells me was stress tested) and same old issues with fans turning on and off. I also noticed, that even the CPU fan is effected. I discovered this with the flashlight on low beam, which clearly shows the fan cycle speeding up and slowing down. So...

Problem With New Build

Beard board this new built today again. Will install the CPU, memory, graphic card, a LED fan and try to see if it boots with no issues. I better add a HDD as well, before trying to boot.

I thought it would be wise to do another test before RMA the Mama/board. Removed the CPU and added one of the LED fans and powered it up. The fan ran without a single incident of it blinking on and off !!! Now, I am wondering if the CPU is the problem? Ordered another CPU, from Old Egg.

As expected the PSU test was normal. +12v - 12.1v +5v - 4.9v PG - 280ms (not sure what dat is) Time to buy another Mama/board or RMA it back to Big-0-bite.

I breadboarded the Mama/board last night, with only the PSU and CPU and the heat sink fan. Same response as before, with a continues long beep. Installed speaker into the case to read any error code from AMI. AMI Bios, does not give a post code error with a sustained beep...

Pick up my rig from Mirco Center tech department. They indicated a no post and suggested that either the CPU or Mama/board or both are defective. I am going to buy a PSU tester and go from there. If the PSU good, then I may send the m/b back to big-a-bite.

Ketchup, I believe I have an issue with either the PSU or the Mama/board or maybe the memory. I was testing the build with only those three items. No display was hooked up. I will report back regarding the result of the bench test.

I re-seated the CPU. Good news is dat the LED fan lights stop blinking but the system shut-down again in less than 1 1/2 minutes. The strange thing is that the CPU fan keep spinning!!?? :eek::eek: I am heading to Micro Center and hand over this build to a tech. I shall report back to Y'all.

I found a Stand-Off mounted in the wong place. I reinstalled the m/b and ran another test. Unfortunately, the problem remains and I will more than likely have to take the rig to a repair shop. I strong suspect there is a parts failure...

PaperDoc, thank you for your reply! Your remarks about the PSU, is reassuring. The Mamaboard came with only four Stand-Offs, which were installed. There were eight screws installed on the m/b, however, there was one near the bottom (center) which would not take a screw and had no Stand-Off...
