You can check here for some service info....http://h20181.www2.hp.com/plmcontent/NACSC/SML/ It looks like that series uses a Phoenix BIOS with nothing shown about the hard drive. I wonder if Compaq has set the BIOS up for the stock hard drive only (number of heads, sectors, and cylinders)...

SATA Cables ?

Is there any differance between SATA I cables and SATA II cables? Is this like the differance between USB 1.1 and USB 2 cables, which is more of a sales pitch then anything else.

Noob question

Besure to lap the bottom of the heat sink. Alot of these chipset heat sinks are not very flat and do not contact the chipset evenly. You may gain more from lapping then changing the goop/gump, but change the gump while you have the heat sink off.

I didn't think USB flash drives could have problems like this

Buy USB card's power adapter or install SP2?

If the computer does not have SP1 installed. Install it and then try the USB ports. SP1 has some updates for USB in it and that may fix your problem. It does not cost a thing, so I would give that a try.

How's this camera for the price?

I do not know much about Fuji camera's except that they use the XD memory that is not cheap. I also know two people that had Fuji camera's and both of the Fuji's failed about two months after the warranty was up. Not a good track record to me.

Good sound card alternatives to Creative , what companies?

This card has worked fine for me: Chaintech AV-710 at under $28.00. Or any cheap C-Media chip based sound card. These cards are so cheap you can buy one and see if it will do what you need it too. They have good driver support or at least they try too.

And what happens when you boot the system from a bootable floppy or CD? What happens when you unplug the hard drive and boot from a floppy or CD? If the software on your hard drive is causing your problem, then removing the hard drive should let the system try to boot and show the BIOS bootup...
