I can play a music CD on my CD-RW drive and hear it on my speakers just fine. But I don't hear it if I plug my headphones into the headphone jack on the front of the CD-RW drive. The volume is on and nothing is muted. Any suggestions on what the problem might be would be appreciated. I'm...
I just replaced my NVIDIA GeForce4 Ti 4200 video card with the ATI All-In-Wonder 9600 Pro video card. The two video cards benchmarked with nearly identical 3DMark2001SE overall scores, but the ATI card benchmarked much better (like a 2.5 times higher overall score) under 3DMark03. Why does the...
Doh! My stupid self downloaded the Windows 98 drivers when I meant to download the Windows XP drivers. I even put them in a folder labeled Windows XP. All is well after doing the install with the right drivers for my operating system. Even so, the responses have some great stuff in them that...
I'm installing an ATI All-In-Wonder 9600 Pro on my Windows XP computer. I had no trouble removing the old NVIDIA card drivers, removing the NVIDIA card, and inserting the ATI card. On rebooting I used DriverCleaner to remove all vestiges of the NVIDIA drivers. Then I installed the ATI software...
I'm deciding between these two motherboards. Any suggestions for getting one over the other? I'd pretty much decided on the EPoX until I heard some things about the built-in sound. I've read that the sound on the ASUS A7N8X Deluxe is better. Is the EPoX 8RDA3+ that bad? Is the 8RDA3+ worse...
Excellent! That is so helpful. Let me ask you this. There are six wires coming from the case to support firewire. They are TPA-, TPA+, TPB-, TPB+, VP and VG. Will a motherboard typically require all of these connectors? Do you know of a particular make and model motherboard that would make...
Can anyone explain why the Antec 660AMG computer case front firewire port is split into five individual pin female connectors on the inside of the case? What component are the five individual connectors supposed to plug into (I mean, if it's a motherboard then can you name one?). Why five...
I recently upgraded my EPoX 8RDA+ motherboard with an Athlon 2600+ FSB 333 processor. When I run SiSoft Sandra's Arithmetic Benchmark on it, it scores 7752 MIPS. SiSoft Sandra's reference Athlon 2600+ processor shows a score of 8028 MIPS. Repeated runs give similar results. Is this close...
I know it's an old motherboard, but it's still doing just fine for me with my AMD Athlon XP 1800+ processor. I've got the V1.3 of the motherboard, so it handles the XP seamlessly.
Anyway, I'm wondering how high it will go in the AMD Athlon XP line. The 2400+ and even 2700+ are getting hard to...
Will I get better performance on my EPoX 8RDA+ motherboard with Crucial's PC2700 CL 2.5 RAM or with their PC3200 CL 3 RAM? About how much better or worse should I expect a benchmark like 3DMark2001 SE to perform? Thank You!
I have an EPoX 8RDA+ motherboard with a Athlon XP 2100+ 266MHz FSB processor. Before long I may upgrade the processor. What does it do for me to get a 333MHz FSB type processor instead? Thank You!
I understand and accept that there is refresh problem under Windows XP that utitlities like RefreshLock will fix. But how do you see the problem? Whenever I change the refresh rate to something other than 60Hz, like 70Hz, it still shows as 70Hz on re-boot. Thank You!
I have a new EPoX 8RDA+ motherboard I'm trying to get to work with an Athlon XP 2100+ processor and Crucial PC2700 memory (2 sticks totaling 512MB of RAM).
When the computer boots, it identifies the processor as an Athlon XP 1500+. Nothing I do gets it to say anything different. I believe the...
I've got the EPoX 8RDA+ motherboard and two sticks of PC2700 256MB Crucial memory. From what I understand, I should place one stick in DIMM1 and one stick in either DIMM 2 or DIMM3 so that the memory runs in the faster 128-bit mode (placing both sticks in DIMM2 and DIMM3 would cause it to run...
The EPoX 8RDA+ motherboard specifications list IEEE 1394 as "optional". What does that mean? Do some EPoX 8RDA+ motherboards come with and some EPoX 8RDA+ motherboards do not? Or might it mean that IEEE 1394 is provided as some sort of add-on hardware that you can decide to connect or not...
I'm getting the EPoX 8RDA+ motherboard which takes up to PC3200 memory, but Crucial only sells up to PC2700. I spoke with someone at Crucial and he said Crucial does not make PC3200 memory because there is no standard. What's this all about?
Thanks for the super fast reply. So the EPoX 8RDA+ must have the SPP northbridge and not the IGP northbridge. Does the IGP northbridge allow only the built-in GeForce4 MX video and no add-on? Whereas the SPP has no built-in video so an add-on video card is a must? Thank You!
How does the built-in performance of the GeForce4 MX compare to that provided by an add-on card? Is the built-in performance about the same as the GeForce4 MX 440? Thank You!
Thanks to the excellent responses, I purchased a DLink DI-614+ and hooked it up as the router on the Windows 98SE computer. And I purchased a DWL-520+ as a wireless NIC and hooked it up on the Windows XP computer. It was a fairly painless setup, not too hard on the wallet, so overall I am very...
Thanks for the quick responses! I'll start by asking at my local drug stores, like Eckereds. If they don't have it then chances are they can point me in the right direction.
What I've read says to use 99% isopropyl alcohol to clean the old paste from the CPU cooler. Finding 70% is easy, it's in groceries and drug stores everywhere. But I can't find 99% anywhere. Or is 99% going overboard and 70% is really fine. Thanks!
I'm just fussy, so I ordered an older Lite-on CD-RW, a 32x. I'll give that a try. The reviews at cdrlabs started labeling the Lite-on drives as noisy beginning with 40x.
Thanks for the feedback!
I just installed my Lite-on 40x CD-RW drive and I notice it makes a high pitched whine during operation. Not constantly, but certainly when the drive is being sped up and sped down. And maybe during routine operation, although I'll need to use it more to be sure. And it's not loud, but loud...
Thank you, nightowl. You are helping me very much already.
Ok, I'll go with the router solution. Would you recommend a brand? Having a product model I can look at will help me understand things.
The Windows 98SE computer already has a NIC installed for the cablemodem. But I take it I will...
I have a Windows 98SE PC connected to cablemodem. I have a Windows XP PC on the other side of the house that is not connected to the internet, and I would like to have it share the cablemodem. I want a wireless solution. What should I buy and how do I set it up? I know this a tall-order of a...
Is it a good idea to get a RAID motherboard even if you don't plan to use RAID? Does a RAID motherboard mean you get extra IDE controllers over the non-RAID version of the motherboard that can be used for more drives (CD-ROM, CD/RW, DVD, etc).
Thank You!
I just signed up for a Dixiesys Medium Reseller account and received my Welcome E-mail in less than one hour! The user interface is exactly like Cyberwings, the Plesk interface. Even with name-server propogation delays, I was actually able to see my site once again within 12 hours!
Dixiesys...
I see from this review from hardcoreware.net that the ABIT AT7, which is a KT333 motherboard, is not compatible with Windows 98SE. Does anyone know why? Is this true for all KT333 motherboards? Thanks for any info!
Does such a thing exist? I'd like to have wireless speakers for my PC. That way I can receive broadcasts of any baseball game I want to and have it played out on the patio!
Thanks for any leads you can give me!
Is there supposed to be music during the actual gameplay? I get music during gameplay in the first scenario (hopping across traffic), but not in the other scenarios. I get sound effects but no music.
I have a NVIDIA video card I believe this game is designed with a 3DFX video card in mind...
