Win2k viable alternative to Win98?

Ditto. I have 98, 2k, and XP Pro and 2k and XP are much more stable and work with most new apps. Make sure you install SP2 because it adds compatability (95, 98, NT emulation) mode

How often do you back up your HD (ghost) ???

Once a week. I have 2 HD's in a RAID 0 array and I backup to a local 10 gig Maxtor drive every Saturday. All my music, program patches, and downloaded files are on my file server.

Which pins are altered on Tualatin vs Cumine, and how important?

The Tualatins 2 voltage planes are: Core:1.45V AGTL+ FSB:1.2V The core Voltage is controlled by the VRM's and the FSB Voltage is controlled by the chipset. I think the Coppermine's FSB voltage was 1.5V.

Bios update problem

Uncheck the "Reserve DMI Data in Flash ROM" check box and try again. I had the same experience two days ago flashing version 1005A. If that does not work, download an updated version of ASUSUpdate.

Refresh rate question...I know there's a way please help.

Go to Display Properties >Settings >Advanced >Adapter and in the dropdown box select "Optimal". This will make the refresh rate run at the highest speed that the monitor will support at that resolution.

The S/PDIF cable is a simple 2 conductor cable. It works only when playing CD's not DVD's. DVD audio is encoded in MPEG2 as a PCM, Dolby Digital, or DTS stream No, you dont need it for better gaming, it is only used when playing a CD.

SMC Barricade 4 PORT DSL/Cable Modem - static IP vs DHCP??

Will the clients on the netgear hub receive packtes and send packets to the internet slower than the ones on the SMC router? No because your cable modem speed is the limiting factor. (Cable= ~1.5 Mbps, Fast Ethernet=100Mbps) Also, as for IP assigning and such, will the SMC Barricade DHCP also...
