    Computer sound card not working

I just checked, onboard is enabled within BIOS. I rechecked with Ubuntu LiveCD and I can get sound out of the PCI card but not onboard. However I still cannot get PCI sound working in WinXP.

    Computer sound card not working

My motherboard has an nForce2 chipset and sound used to work in the past but stopped working. Checked all the normal stuff, make sure it wasn't muted, volume was turned up, speakers are working, no bad devices in device manager, removed/reinstalled devices in device manager. Since that...

How does memory addressing with integrated video cards work

If I am running a 32b OS I have 4GB of address space available. Assuming 3GB of system RAM and a 1GB discrete video card RAM I am using 100% of available address space. If I have 4GB system RAM and an integrated video card, how much of the address space is used by the video card? Does it...

    Chipset fan struggling (updated)

I actually have one lying around (specifically the Zalman ZM-NB47J) and uploaded a pic of the instructions from the back: http://img380.imageshack.us/my.php?image=img3639ux4.jpg My guess is that the chipset has an auto-shut off temp which is protecting it from permanent heat damage. I've...

    Chipset fan struggling (updated)

It comes with cooling paste (you can tell from the pics). I used some Artic Silver I had lying around anyway, but any thermal paste will work. From what I remember, you will need to remove your motherboard to mount a bracket on the other side. Even if I remember incorrectly and there is no...

Windows Install issues on a new build

Skimmed through most of it, seems like an OS issue. From what I can tell you tried installing a new mobo / CPU with an old OS. You probably should've cleared out the device manager so Windows would reinstall new hardware upon starting, but it looks like it's giving you trouble. Burn and try...

Speaker Static and weird noises help!

Plug in a different set of speakers to test if it's a speaker or sound card problem. However, it probably is some sort of electrical interference from the sounds of it. You may try buying a cheap sound card and using that instead to see if it helps.

    Chipset fan struggling (updated)

I have the same cooler on multiple motherboards and it works fine. The only question is if your video card sticks past the PCI-e / AGP slot over the north bridge chipset or not. Since the heatsink is rather tall, if your video card blocks above the chipset then you won't be able to use it.

Computer crashes in clean XP install but Ubuntu is fine

Two clean installs of WinXP Pro and Ubuntu dual-boot. I'm trying to install WinXP SP2 but it keeps crashing (I know the file is good). From my source computer and destination computer I'll the md5 checksum is correct. However when I boot into WinXP and run Cygwin -> md5sum it gives me wrong...

    Weird power issues

I have some weird power problems with my computer. When I turn on my computer sometimes it works. When it doesn't work I get a blank screen (no POST), mobo lights are on, and all I can do is power off and retry until the system works. Sometimes when I hit the power on the computer comes on...

iCalendar program for Windows Mobile 6?

Well even if I did get a hosted Exchange account I wouldn't know how to get it working on my Linux boxes, and I wouldn't want to switch over either as I primarily use Sunbird/Rainlendar anyway.

iCalendar program for Windows Mobile 6?

I've always used iCalendar with an internet calendar because it's not feasible nor desirable to to run a personal Exchange server. However my new smartphone runs Windows Mobile 6, and thus is integrated with Outlook. Is there any application out there that allows for iCalendar integration...

    Laptop won't POST

Yes, I did try removing the battery entirely for a minute. I didn't try removing the RAM because I didn't have a screwdriver handy. But in my experience with RAM problems the mobo will still POST and beep. However I think with laptops that there doesn't exist a PC speaker and it's driven...

    Laptop won't POST

My laptop (Dell Inspiron 6000, out of warranty) was plugged in and idling. The screen blacks and wouldn't respond so I do a hard reset. Afterwards I couldn't bring the laptop back up. The power light was on and upon startup I would hear the hdd and cd-rom power up. However there was no...

    Can't identify this motherboard

It's frustrating, I've tried Googling every single piece of unique information I can find on the board. I have a spare AMD Thunderbird 1.4GHz socket A and I want to know if I can drop it in without damaging the chip. Or if it's unsupported, I can flash the BIOS to support newer CPUs...

Can't install USB Host Controller for my motherboard

WinXP setup and Ubuntu Live CD both fail

BIOS reports 55C CPU / 32C Mobo which is fine for an AMD Thunderbird 1.4Ghz. My linux box uses the exact same chip and used to run fine at 70C for years before I realized that I had improperly seated the HSF.

WinXP setup and Ubuntu Live CD both fail

I've replaced the optical drive with another one that's guaranteed working (just used it to install XP on another system yesterday) and WinXP setup still crashes at the 34 minute mark (device setup again but no NIC message). I'm in the process of replacing the PSU right now.

WinXP setup and Ubuntu Live CD both fail

If anything on a barebones system fails upon bootup it'd throw a POST code. Motherboard? It wouldn't post, plus there are bulging or popped caps. Memory? Tested with memtest86. Video card? It'd give me video problems. hdd? After flashing BIOS it can't even load Windows setup...

WinXP setup and Ubuntu Live CD both fail

WinXP setup and Ubuntu Live CD both fail

My problem is that WinXP setup freezes all the time at the device installation phase, specifically installing the network card. I did have a PCI one in there at a time but I had yanked everything but the barebones (mobo, cpu, ram, vid, hdd, cd-rom) and it still freezes at that spot during...

ViewSonic moniter - only 1 speaker works..

Just to double check, hook up a portable CD/mp3 player to the monitor's speakers and see if both function properly. If your monitor's speakers work with a different source, then it sounds like it's an audio output problem. First thing you can try doing is trying the latest drivers from your...

    Car Remote Locking Trick

    Printer ink cartridges

It's just different styles of profit. For example regular shavers are priced really cheap but the replacement blades are pretty expensive. If you would rather pay a lot of money up front for a well made printer than get a laser printer. They'll be cheaper than ink printers in the long run.
