Update on this. I submitted an email and they did get back to me quickly. TP-Link has a strange way of organizing their sites. I had to go to the tp-link.us site in order to get the updated firmware and (for now) it seems to be a bit more stable than it was.

Don't understand why you'd be averse to the USB option. For about $25-$50 you can get a 802.11g USB adapter that can work in any desktop or notebook you want to port it to. They're also the size of thumb drives now and usually come with a nice USB extender. They're pretty cool.

Several Dell PCs: Exact same model. XP validates on all but one...?

Totally agree. The validation only works a few times and you have to call Microsoft after that. I've had to re-install XP due to upgrading my computer a few times or recovering from a crash and I never had a problem with them on the phone.
