Anyone know why my CPU fan speed goes up under load?

I'm absolutely certain it's the CPU fan. I just replaced the stock HFS with a Taisol CGK unit with a Delta 30CFM fan on top. The sound of the Delta is very distinctive, and it's easy to hear it speed up. The PSU fan is very quiet, and I couldn't hear the fan change speed with the stock HFS...

Anyone know why my CPU fan speed goes up under load?

Can't be temperature, because it speeds up the instant the CPU goes under load. Not enough time for the temp to change. I can even make it do it just by clicking and dragging on a window drag bar or click-holding on a close button.

When I load up my Tbird 1.1GHz OC'ed to 1.2GHz, my Taisol (the big forged one) with 30CFM fan, the CPU fan immediately increases by 100 RPM. The instant I tell Prime95 to go, you can HEAR it load up. AFAIK, there is no way for the KT7 motherboard to tweak the fan speed based on CPU load, and...

Not too high, no. If its stable for you, there's no problem! More voltage adds to heat so if there's problems try better cooling. Nice overclock.

Nikepete, have you tried running 9x133? That would get you 1197 and the faster, now supported 133mhz FSB, which has shown impressive gains in tests. You might have to do the pencil trick..

9v DC current won't kill you. It's pretty hard to be killed by DC, even at 1000V, unless there's so much current it burns you to death. AC on the other hand is bad, very bad.

No, mine does the same thing. I think it's great. Just override the default setting and bump the voltage down and reboot and check until health monitor reads ~1.75v. No problem. This is the voltage your CPU is supposed to run at and it will run at the right temperature this way. 1.85v...

50 Degrees C OK for 1Ghz T-Bird?

Mine goes to 53°C when doing heavy stuff. AMD supplied heatsink. If it doesn't crash, then its not a problem. Might need to improve things if you start overclocking to make it stable, but until then.

Posting is meaningless. They usually post at speeds much higher than they will run stable. I can post at 1.35ghz, but it isn't stable above ~1150mhz.

I'm not really so dumb as to leave off the heat sink, but I *was* dumb enough to leave the little plastic sheet over the thermal pad. Actually, I pulled it off as the instructions said, but it left a second layer underneath. Not realizing the pad itself was supposed to be pink instead of blue...

What's the most I can get out of my 1.1ghz Athlon?

Well, my Thunderbird 1.1GHz gives me rounding-off and other errors in Prime95 at 1200MHz (FSB 100x12) - even with 1.85 volts. It seems to run OK otherwise, but as soon as it hits 53°C - Prime95 pukes. OEM from AMD heatsink/fan, KT7-RAID. (Is this typical, guys?)
