Good Passive HS for Northbridge on a KT7A

Good Passive HS for Northbridge on a KT7A

I'm looking to ditch that noisy Northbridge Fan/HS on my Abit KT7A, where can I get a nice passive HS to plug on it? Something that clips on would be ideal, but if I had to use some AS epoxy that wouldn't be bad, either.

Sighhhh, I've lost my 4th IBM 60GXP

Well, a flaky PSU can fail a drive, but that's most likely not the problem here. Read this article on how to choose a PSU, which brand 350 unit did you pick up? The IBM GXPs just fail a lot, not a whole lot you can do. Active cooling may help, how warm does the drive get?

Are these temp readings correct?

I should have thought of this before posting, but I looked in the BIOS to check (it's an Abit KT7A). The 53.8C temp is the CPU temp, the 34.8C temp is the system temp. No idea what the 24.1C temp is, could it be the ambient temps? Seems a bit cool for inside my case, though.

Are these temp readings correct?

Hi gang, Using SiSoft Sandra, it reports these temps: Board Temp: 24.1C CPU Temp: 34.8C Power/Aux Temp: 53.8C Now using MBM, I had always assumed that the Power/Aux temp was the CPU temp, the CPU temp was the Board temp, but then what's the lowest temp a measurement of? Is SiSoft Sandra wrong?

What's the cheapest bolt to motherboard Socket A heatsink?

After seeing a cracked Athlon XP damaged in shipping, I'm thinking of only using heatsinks which bolt to the motherboard. What's the cheapest one? Off the top of my head, the Alpha 8045 is the cheapest at about $40, any others that are cheaper?

My co-worker picked up a tested MB/CPU/DDR bundled from MWave (they installed the CPU, RAM and tested it). After installing in the MB into the case the monitor wouldn't turn on, no beeps or anything. Look into the MB manual (Soyo Dragon Plus) which says that either the MB or CPU is toasted. I...

Last Resort Sound Reduction

You need airflow, which means that somewhere there will have to be holes in the box to let air through. Holes let sound through, so to make it quiet, you'll need to baffle the noise. (Think of a car muffler) I saw one on the web somewhere, but here's a rough picture of how it should look...

Which system, AMD or Intel have you built in the last 12 months?

Built probably 10 AMD systems between personal and work machines. Built 0 Intel machines. Biggest problem with AMD systems on the field so far? 2 failed IBM 75GXP drives, 1 failed 60GXP, and one failed PSU. About 2/3s of the AMDs have IBM drives, the others have Maxtors.

Any Dynamat Users???

Dynamat is too expensive. Go over to B-Quiet B-Quiet and pick up some of the Extreme, Brown Bread or Beaver Tail. You get a whole lot. Stay away from the B-Quiet Original, it isn't sticky enough and tends to slide down the sides of your case. I've got the Brown Bread in my case, on both...

PAL8045 Kicks Butt, now what abput GeForce2 Cooling?

I received and installed my Alpha PAL8045 on my Duron 700 -> 1000Mhz today. MBM reads 1.89V. I'm using a Sunon low speed 31 CFM @ 2500 RPM, 28 dBA fan sucking. Works great, temp is at 48C at load, 43C idle on a KT7A with latest BIOS under W2K. With the stock HS, 800MHz and 1.65V, it was...

sound proofing material...what is good and where to get?

I've installed B-Quiet Brown Bread in my computers, and it makes a big difference in the amount of noise which leaves the case. Make sure you cover as much area as possible when doing it (front, back, sides and top, even the bottom) and you'll get good results.

I need to find a QUIET 92mm 3-Pin Fan...............

I highly recommend Sidewinder Computers. Their Ultra Cool Ultra Clear 92mm fan is nice and quiet (27db) and moves a decent amount of air. Check out their recordings of different fans, you can see which fan of theirs is the quietest. Personally, even their low-speed 80mm fan isn't quiet enough...

Has anyone tried any Luefken water cooling setups?

A couple comments comparing it to my Be Cooling system from www.aquastealth.com. 1. The dual radiator won't fit in your case very easily. My Be Cooling system came with a radiator half the size, but fits one 120mm fan perfectly. If you get a dual radiator, you should get a second fan for it...

I've got a kit from Be Cooling that I'm happy with. Keeps my Duron 800 clocked to 1000 cooler than it was on air cooling at stock speeds! Be Cooling

Thermoengine HEAT with a 1.1 t'bird

The Thermoengine isn't that great, IMO. On my Abit KT7A it would read 115 F under load with my Duron 800. Not much better than a stock style CPU fan, only a couple degrees cooler. Since then I've moved to Aquastealth II with only a low speed 80mm fan on the radiator. At stock speeds the temp...
