have you thought of using another hard drive to do a full re-install, apply all updates then boot to your original disk using the new drive as a source for the dlls you need.
If you can boot into safe mode you may be able to find your install info on downloaded software.
good luck
beats me. Have you tried using the onboard sound?.... I've had some weird issues before with the whole system lagging down with the addition of a sound card...moved it to another pci slot, ensured the onboard was disabled in bios and viola...worked.
Another long shot is to install the...
As a quick disclosure...Your first linux distro should depend on what you really want to accomplish/encounter. Ubuntu is an excellent distro for first time users because ease of use and compatability is great...even though it is debian. :)
I recommend synaptic package manager for your...
Excellent advice. I have spent many hours in the past dealing with bios flashing issues. If the bios has gone to Jesus, cannot boot and cannot get to the floppy drive you can order a new one from the mfg. If you're in a hurry and don't want to wait for turn around you can hotflash.
I've...
I have the $20 one from Newegg and it's been good for about 2 years now. It doesn't do SATA but neither do I yet :)
These are very handy especially for helping people with a busted laptop backup.
I've been out of the loop for a while and am wondering if this ECS motherboard is stable/reliable for a non overclocked machine build for a family member.
mythtv, I've been using it for about 2 years and love it...of course it was a pain in the arse to get it working right in the beginning. :) but once it was there it has been awesome.
LOl. I hope so...I can set a few of them up in a raid for floppy emulation :)
anyone want to sell me theirs so I can build my array
btw....firefox worked fine for me
Well said jwardl...very professional not to get into the amd/intel/ replay/tivo/ coke/pepsi debate. I use mythtv and sometimes I hate it but only have myself to blame. I may pull the trigger on this for my girlfriend.
thanks
I believe I am. I say that because I only replied to the email I was sent indicating I intended to stay with the new host and inquiring about any cost change. I received a reply indicating the costs were unchanged.
The confusion comes in when I go to the website and see prices much higher...
My server is up and running :) I figure since you guys went through all that touble to pick it up I'm going to stay with you to support you too.
thanks
It sure is funny to read all these silly opinions everyone seems to hold so dear and feel so adamant about. You can almost tell which information venue each person has been indoctrinated by in just a few lines.
Aren't humans interesting?
This is what it sounds like to me. We can be...
true...but most people don't understand the time it takes for economic decisions to have measurable effects??? A lot of people think it is linear...or I should say they believe it is immediate rather than a time delay of many years.
I wish I could call you a liar but what you say here is true. And just because the Democratic party is different from what it was intended to be doesn't make you less of a Democrat. I believe the ever forgetfull R. Reagan said it best, "I didn't leave the Democratic party, it left me"
Oh...
If it is on your personal computer I recommend backing up your files, having a few drinks and then throwing caution to the wind. The worst thing that can happen is you need to reinstall Linux and Windows :) which is almost preferred anyway.
LOL :P
I tried XP64 twice in the last 1.5 years and have been unimpressed/frustrated so I keep them @ 32bit. As far as Linux goes I've done Ubuntu 64bit for a friend but removed it because he decided to go full boat XP :( so currently this is what I run.
XP32bit = 3 (1 desktop and 1 dual...
The internet???? They have that on laptops now?? Wow.. J/k
Just make sure you have the drivers that came with your card....and if you're not using a restore disk you might want to download the drivers for your laptop before you reinstall your OS.
On another note....If you don't have...
I'd love to the the two duel boot :) Sounds like another Ultimate Fighting Championship for the OS world..of course the Linux kernel would come in and sweep it up
yeah... use the command
startx
It is odd that you have that issue. I had a tough time getting Ubuntu to not start x @ boot....sometimes you have to kick them in just the right place :)
True, I've tried 4-5 distros and Ubuntu is the most user friendly right out of the box. My father-in-law always wants help with RH/FC so I sent him a Ubuntu disk and told him to start all over about 3 months ago.....He has had very little issues with it since it is quite intuitive.
