I've heard of building speakers, what about a sub?

I'm working on a DIY sub using a PE 12" Quatro driver with a DIY plate amp (335W LM3886 parallel/bridged) in a sealed enclosure. Total cost is ~$100 for the driver and ~$50 in parts for the amp plus about $70 in building materials. I'll post some pics when I'm done. Viper GTS - I recognise...

Titanic is actually a woofer made by Parts Express. It's comparable to the Adire Audio Shiva driver.

Do NOT do HTIB, you can get a lot more for your money by buying everything yourself. For example, I picked up a Kenwood 5.1 100WPC amp for $99 over in hot deals, and then I picked up the $199 Fluance 5 speaker set and for $300 I have a stereo that's much, much better than any HTIB for the same...

#1 all around is easily an nForce2 board with SoundStorm. Simply awesome. Creative who? If your after extra high quality I/O, then an M-Audio board would be a good place to start. Or anything with an ENVY24 or ENVY24HT chip. Creative who?

Breaking the light barrier

I remember reading about a similar experiment where they were able to "teleport" light across a medium, however the information that was encoded in the light still arrived as if it was 'only' traveling at C. Figure that one! :D

One really interesting thing that I would like to see Transmeta do is release some non x86 code-morphing addons for the Crusoe. It would be really neat to be able to have one CPU that could switch between PPC, ARM, x86, Alpha, etc.

My software vendor tech support is telling me virtual memory = total system memory.

MacLeans Canadian University Rankings The much debated canadian university rankings. Many say they are skewed towards this or that, but it will give you a general idea of what's good and what's not. I go to U of Manitoba, we always get raped in the rankings, but eh, what can ya do. :)

Can a COM port be used as a voltmeter?

Yea, you would need to sync it somehow, that's not terribly difficult though. You do have, what, 4? data lines to use with serial. To measure voltages under the threshold, hmmm. I'm sure there is a simple way to do it, but I'm not coming up with any bulletproof ideas off the top of my head...

Why not just use a simple RC circuit? Tie the cap to a digital input and you have a simple ADC. It works because you know the time constant of the RC network, and you know (or can find out) the signaling voltage your com port needs, so measure the time from applying the analog signal to the...

Wireless network setup question

The guys at Sveasoft are suggesting using 14.2dBi panel antennas at all 3 locations. I can get a decent price of $54cdn /panel with 3' LMR195 & RP-TNC to fit WRT54G from Superpass, so that might be what we try and do. What kind of signal strength do you think we could get from that?

Math book that deals with real world senarios?
