I've tried reinstalling the software to no avail. Also, I have been trying to copy the SAME EXACT game as earlier, so unless they can magically put a new protection on it, it should work. Or I could have some settings on wrong. However, the drive works perfectly fine when burning audio cd's...

MiniThug, You go into the run part of the start menu.. and type in "regedit"... then navigate the folders till you get there. Can anyone else verify that it will not work on Windows 2K or Windows XP (or if there is a way around it)?

Alright, I'm not a Linux/Unix buff, but i know "rm" means remove... and "bin" is a folder in linux... and laden in this case would be a sub folder.. but what does "-rf" mean?

card with best bang/buck ratio

The Radeon DDR LE is definitely the best bang for your buck, but as the other people said, it's still going to do fairly poorly with a K6 series CPU.

Please help choosing graphic card!

If you are using win98/me, I think you should go with the Radeon DDR LE which is about $77 shipped from www.newegg.com. This card will EASILY beat out an MX, and costs about the same. If you have a fast cpu.... 900mhz or higher, then you might want to think about the KyroII, (because the card...

Poll: Bought a LeadTek card...are they any good?

Well, it might have been a better idea to ask about problems BEFORE you bought the card... but that's okay. I don't think VisionTek cards have much problems, not more than any other Geforce 2 card anyways.

Asus v8200 Deluxe or Gainward Powerpack!!! ?

Performance wise, they are all virtually identical. However, I have read @anandtech that the Gainward one overclocks very well, has nice features, and is priced very nicely. You can get the Gainward one @newegg.com for about $340, without VIVO, but with TV-OUT.

Why is my Sandra2000 hard drive score so low?

Defrag your harddrive. When I don't defrag it goes to about 9,000, and right after a fresh defrag it's about 19,000. Also, Sandra Sisoft isn't the best program for harddrive benchmarking. HDTach is much better for your purposes.

2009 in 3d mark 2001 ............ !?! UPDATE jumped to 3132 with new VIA drivers !

Install your Via4in1 drivers if you haven't yet. This should dramtically increase your score. (you should be getting in the 3000-3500 range).

Okay... well reading that you haven't installed the via 4-1's....... YOU NEED TO DO THAT. My friend had a G2MX and got about 1400 in 3dmark2000, but when he installed the 4in1's he got about 4500!!... INSTALL THEM!

Well, this is a Radeon that is severely crippled. If you read, it was a VE, meaning it has Half the pipelines (only 1) and the bandwidth is only 64 bits (opposed to 128). So in a way, it is "4 times worse than the Radeon DDR". It's not 1/4 of the performance, but it really does take...

I think you've probably hit about the limit of that chip. I believe that the ram chips on that card are 6 ns, which means they're spec'ed for 166. However, you could try 200/200, but I dont' know how much more of a performance upgrade you'll get. I think your score is about in the range of...

Video card choice.

If you have a very fast cpu, the Kyro II will be a good choice for you, since the Kyro performs much better when paired with a fast cpu (this is due to the lack of a T&L engine on the card). However, if you have a slower cpu, I would reccomend the Geforce 2 GTS Pro (a little more expensive)...

Radeon 32 MB DDR + 3DMark 2001

You should be able to get close to 3000. I have a Duron 1050 and Radeon DDR LE @183/183 and I get right around 3000. Check my rig for more specs.

What's the best free benchmarking software?

3dmark2k1 is a pretty good "realworld" benchmark and a whole bunch of people use it, so it is easy to compare with people. However, if you want a bunch of synthetic information.... SiSoft can give you a whole bunch of stuff on ram, cpu's, harddrives.. etc.

It depends on what you want to test your computer on. 3dmark2k1 is a pretty good one for overall performance. (and more slanted towards video cards). SiSoft would be a good all purpose benchmarking utility.

I'd have to say that the Radeon DDR LE is the best choice if are really wanting to save money. The Voodoo's aren't that great, and there is virtually no more support for them. However,if you want to spend a little more money, I would put it towards the Kyro2. IMHO Radeon DDR LE is the best...

How much of a hit do you take when enabling antisopric (sp?) filtering?

Question in the title. I have been playing around with it, and notice a HUGE difference in the clarity of objects in the distance. I don't really need 100,000,000 FPS and would like the quality more. But I was just wondering how much of a difference there would be.

Suggestion on a low budget card?

Radeon DDR LE. It's only $77 @newegg now. I have had this card for a month or two, and I love it. It was a HUGE increase from my voodoo3 2000, and will also give you a fairly large boost.
