So you run an ASRock x370 Taichi with GSkill's F4-3200C14D-16GTZKW, which is not listed as compatible and things run smoothly. Good to know. I am looking for parts for a friend moving to Ryzen and it sounds difficult. "You will get big benefit from faster ram... but you will struggle to find...
This one sounds better. I don't know if it's possible but at least this is a real difference that doesn't affect what you do with the card. Most gamers have one card, miners have 2 or more. So a card could detect if it's alone and behave poorly otherwise.
They could sell "gaming protected"...
Interresting ! I will consider having my corsair rm 550x facing up.
It's facing down at the moment and with an i3/1060 the PSU case is at 38°c at idle and 44°c in stress test.
Edit: The fan never turned on.
Here is an interesting benchmark from Craft computing:
Chinese x79 Motherboards! Which CPU to use???
"Today we'll be taking a look at four CPU options for these Chinese x79 motherboards. We've got the E5-2643 3.3GHz 4C/8T, the E5-2650 2.0GHz 8C/16T, the E5-2667 2.9GHz 6C/12T, and the tried and...

I guess you were targeted by simple scanning and then bruteforcing. They were certainly very low profile hackers and may not have injected trojans but you should not consider your pc safe anymore.
On top of all the basic advices given here I'll add:

Thanks for the feedback. Please make a Firestrike bench when you have time and tell us about fan control. If you ever had the idea, do not try to OC on theese boards.
Nope, they are not in RAID. I had the idea that I could use the second SSD to cache the green drive, to speed up the loading of the games I am currently playing. I thought ok, I may have 100/200Gb of game files but there's really no need to have all of that on a SSD ! So I just want a system...
I havn't tried romex's software. I installed it but... I didn't use it. Then my trial was over and here I am. I went over the trial period without doing any test with primocache.
My system has a 650Gb caviar green and two 64GB SSD. Installing windows on the SSD makes a huge difference. It boots...

Good to know so it depends on xeon generation. I would be interested to know up to how many cores one can go, without overclocking and not loosing the gaming performance.
Here someone plays BF1 at 4K with a 1080ti:

Well I couldn't :p I installed it but I was surprised because my system performed already very well with the system SSD and the old caviar drive. So I just continued like that and it was fast enough for me. When I came back to testing the trial period was over :(
Yep. I'll try that at next...
Found another great video, only 6k views. It feels nice and comfy sitting on that old z400, sipping a beer, and watching the stream :)
The Chinese X79 Benchmarks... Mission Accomplished?
Yes, I misunderstood your objection, sorry for that. I personally would try an ES but I understand it's not proper to compare with. That's why I moved to the Ryzen 5 1600 vs. Xeon E5 1650.
Your 80$ Ryzen is an auction :p (The last auction on january 5th closed at 160$.)
Here is an interesting video with real world comparison between a Ryzen 5 1600 and a Xeon e5-1650. Both run games smoothly, being only limited by GPU.

I don't think the "unofficial consumer Xeon DIY PC builds" is about "on sale" deals... but about what is possible to achieve with the retired xeons coming out cheap. Then I see mainly 2 ways to use them that are quite different: as workstations or as gaming pc.
With the low cost retired ECC I...
I mainly studied the 500w area, looking for a silent PSU. It looks like competition is hard and all products now have very good electric behavior and long guarantee. Seasonic is always at the top but many are high so I saw no reason to pay so much extra.

Hello,
There are two types of X99 motherboards compatible with ECC memory:
- The ones officially compatible
- The ones not officially compatible
If you have tested your board with ECC memory, please report it here. (With Memory serial number and bios version if possible).
It's just about ECC...
There are some updates on the "1366 Workstation" thread also launched by CBN and this quote about "cachecade" may be of interest here. As I understand It needs a specific dell card but then it's cachecade automating level 2 caching.
The prices:
x58 16gb x5670 = 200€ (Sata 2 only, 250MB/s)
x79 32gb e2680v2 = 400€
I am not sure a 10 core cpu is good for gaming, they don't have many benchmarks for that :p I personally would stick to a 6 core with high frequencies on all 6 cores, but have no real data to confirm that.
Ok, here are the moralists PPB was talking about :p Then you have to add 200€ to get a production xeon, making the platform cost 470€. That's really not a good value compared with the ryzen. Let's check that thread in 2020 to see if there is still hope for the xeons :)
Hello,
I got a Z97 especially to use Intel Smart Response but got disapointed. It was not caching the right files and my windows boot speed and performance wasn't good. Maybe I did something wrong because I saw good reviews but that's my experience.
Simply having the SSD as the system drive is...
Just bought a xeon platform for 270€:
xeon 1650v3 ES for 150€
x99 MB for 100€
8GB of 2133Mhz ECC REG DDR4 for 25€
According to cpu.userbenchmark.com the Ryzen 5 1600 is 1% faster than this cpu, it has an Insanely higher market share (+10%) and is hugely more popular (+137%).

Just run the firestrike benchmark so you get an idea of our machine performance for gaming and you can compare that with other results, using their "advanced search". From my research, I can see even xeon x5670 is enought today to drive high end video cards.

You are getting into amazing price/performance ratio with thoose used workstations.
In your case, the quadro video card that ship with it is especially great for rendering.

Nice post, it goes into details about the T7500.

Sorry, this video is only about the xeon. The Z400 doesn't have so many options but according to this post it seems you can overclock if you have the version with 6 DIMM slots:

Some Q&A about the HP Z400:
1) Is it possible to upgrade to a x5670 processor ?
Yes with a bios upgrade.
2) Is it possible to overclock ?
Yes. I like that introduction video about overclocking:

3) Is it possible to plug a new CPU Fan ?

Hello, here are some firestrike scores comparing the xeon to more modern CPU. The goal is to see if it's a good cpu for gaming.
