Crucial M4 on SATA-II port only negotiating SATA-I

Thank you for your encouragements to finish installing and test it out. Finally had some time to tinker, and with AMD drivers installed I ran CrystalDiskMark to the following results: Definitely operating at greater than SATA 1.5Gb/s although BIOS still reports it as such.

I may actually have a solution for you to try. If the M4 is reporting UDMA5 it is operating in IDE mode. Switch it to SATA/AHCI mode in bios, or try a different SATA port. I have not gone as far as messing with the OS, as the drive was reporting 1.5G in the bios, while my SATA2 HDD was...

Old hardware advice please

I indeed went with the sempron and it's doing pretty admirably, considering it's some 4 years old. I self-modded the compaq bios to give me access to the memory timings, and I'm using Clockgen in windows to push the Sempron to 2200. The xt850 is also getting a dose of catalyst overdrive.

nope. the Pentium M (P-M) is what you are referring to. its celeron is the celeron M with half the cache and missing the speed step tech. the P4-M IS based on the desktop pentium 4...and its celeron is the "mobile celeron"

Gwag, the PC-Chips board that came free with the Duron is a KT266A Board. the max FSB setting is 165. i've only found 155 stable...and it even seems sketchy sometimes so i'm gonna stay at ~150

ok. i gave up on the cache entirely...after trying L9 along with L2 and netting nothing :) i went ahead and pumped the voltage to max (two more wires in the socket) (1.85v) while i had the chip out, and i successfully connected the second and third L5 bridge...giving me multiplier access in...

DaNorthFace, the L6 to which you are referring is correct...if you're using an old Spitfire Duron or T-bird athlon. The new package has different bridges; in the current one, users were cutting the L6 bridges in order to unlock all multipliers for use with CPUMSR, until it was found that bridge...

my new monitor.....

it would be helpful to everyone if you specified exactly WHAT your new monitor is. the lack of ghosting on your old TV is because it is a CRT, completely different technology than LCD, and has no issues with delay while the subpixels "twist" into position. rather, the firing, or not firing...

[DEAD?] Thermalright ALX-800 for only $9.99!!

deal might be dead but i wanna vouch for the ALX-800. I'm using it with a Sunon 80mm (39cfm) and it's great. the reason the fins are thicker is that the alum. part is cut out of a solid block of alum...instead of individual fins grafted onto a base its an alum. fin-block grafted onto a base.

Epox Replacement BIOS $10

Found it at the Epox Store (dot com) They come pre-flashed to the latest available bios. Gonna get one for a little Duron 800 I have that ate it's BIOS chip. pretty much wherever else I've seen pre-flashed bios chips, they're 25 bux. Edit: fixed link

Linux VuDu Installation problems.

Well i ran Harvey's Synapse scan, and it came up clean...but it said i only had 10-million free synapses. how many synapses in your pupupy? I'm beginnning to think this was an autistic badger.
