Nugget - This is your thread

Wiz, Everything in your reply is either wrong or a lie. It's pathetic how you think you can make something up about an individual and then pretend it's fact, and _then_ attack these made up facts. I'm not a poor debater, I'm just not going to fall victim to your trolling.

Nugget - This is your thread

Wiz, The chicago comment was a joke, as you partially surmised, towards the wonderful politics we have here. It was meant as nothing more. As for the rest of your reply, it's just more of the same emotionally charged slander. It's not worthy of even these two sentances to discuss.

Nugget - This is your thread

You've just never been to Chicago, Wiz. And your reaction is very typical of someone who is letting their emotions drive their fingers. it's too bad, because I imagine that you're otherwise an intelligent individual. Once again, I do get it. I've gotten it since day one.

Nugget - This is your thread

It's too bad more people haven't read Nugget's response in this thread: http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview.cfm?catid=39&threadid=516818&highlight_key=y and have, rather, relied on the various bits of dis-information that have been passed back and forth over and over again, until...

    Sneaker net Caught??

"Is that fact that they didn't have permission?" So you're saying that these people got permission from their bosses who then turned around and forgot what the client(s) did and put the blame on them for something they (the clients) could not possibly do?! I'd like to see your...

    Sneaker net Caught??

mechBgon, Most certainly true. It's the fact that the upper-ups (usually not the brightest bulbs in the box to begin with) had no clue as to what seti@home is that it got the bad-press. Had someone been educated and had given their permission to use the resources, I'm sure that they would...

    Issue with Netscape 6.0

BurntKooshie, "fast" is a bit vague. Mozilla is definetly a memory hog (thought that has slowly been getting better) but mozilla renders pages faster (the nightlies have been great) and is more standards compliant (despite what /. authors might say). regardless, Netscape 6 should...

    Issue with Netscape 6.0

Netscape 4.77 doesn't encounter the error. But sciencewhiz is right, mozilla 0.9.1 is out and it's quite good. I use it far more often than IE now.

    need CHEAP socket-A mobo

try a pcchips board. lots of people swear by them, lots of people curse them. i've had good luck with them for building inexpensive, task-specific machines. example: my old NAT box/mp3 stereo was a pcchips socket-7 board. onboard sound, video, and ran a p166@200. example 2: current...

Whats easiest way to get a non-networked machine RC5 cracking?

You can also just email-fetch new buffer files and email-flush completed buffer files. but for a couple bucks, you could get a cheap network card too. :)

    Mozilla 0.8.1 Released

http://www.mozilla.org/releases/ Along with the revised roadmap schedual, Mozilla 0.8.1 was released yesterday. Despite the negative press Mozilla has gotten in the past, I think things are moving a long quite well. Yes, there still are bugs but we're not at a 1.0 release yet, so that's...

rc5 blocks seem to be missing again

The proxies were down and out yesterday for a number of hours (main Dnet proxies). could that be the reason there is a backlog? People couldn't fetch RC5 packets (those that wandered into #distributed) I have a feeling your missing stats will show up tomorrow.

Is someone trying to break into my computer?

CTR makes an excellent point. Many attempts to compromise a system are simply scripts that have been released into the wild. There probably is not a person sitting at a machine trying to access your box, but rather an infected computer.

Dos Client, does anybody use it?

I've used the DOS client in the past with lots of luck. Just download 2 weeks worth of RC5 work units and let it chug away on a box in the corner. Added the client exe to the autoexec and away we went.

Strange Networking Problem - transfering files.

Despite a reinstall of ME on Machine 1, I'm beginning to suspect that it's a corrupt driver (or corrupt drivers). As an experiment, I pulled the current hard drive from Machine 1 and tossed in a blank one. I formated and installed 2K on the new HD. Result: network file transfers were fine...

Strange Networking Problem - transfering files.

MrChicken: the only change made to the machine recently was the addition of a USB scanner about 9 days ago. rpeAmp: The card was set to "auto" but I forced it to 100Mb/Full Duplex and that had no effect on the problem.

    myip.org

Well, you can open up a big discussion about this sort of thing but I'll try to avoid that. In the end it all comes down to this: you get what you pay for. DDNS services are, for the most part, free. These guys really don't make any money. They get income from banner ads and the occasional...
