I'll explain it like this, theirs a time for acceptable social interaction with strangers. Usually over a beer at a sports bar or event or other places of similar interests where others gather. Not grocery shopping.
Not even kidding in the slightest, if someone started talking to me randomly at the grocery store, about yogurt or any other food, I'm going to look at them like they're crazy and walk away.
