Like I said in my earlier response, I initially thought I misunderstood too and did a double take. The guy said that "Windows 10 is free for a year." I asked him to clarify what that meant - whether he means that it's free (for good) if upgraded during the first year or that that MS will start...
I doubted it too until I heard and had it confirmed. Everything I had read on the topic seems to state that if upgraded during the first year, Windows 10 would be supported free of any fees for the duration of its supported life.
I even thought that I misunderstood the first person with whom...
I know that this has been a matter of some debate and the subject of many articles on and off line, but I'm bringing it up anyway.
The reason: unable to activate Windows 10 (clean install after initial upgrade from Windows 7), I called Microsoft a few days ago only to be told to let it sit...
Hi folks,
I kinda doubt that anyone will be able to answer this, but I'll try anyway.
The Mouse Properties window [in Windows 7 in my case] has an option to show the location of the mouse pointer when the CTRL key is pressed. Enabling it shows a sonar-like "diminishing" circle around the...
Happy to say computer works beautifully. The M4 is ridiculously fast with this setup. Thought it was too much money to spend on a drive but it's worth every penny. I hope the performance doesn't degrade much over time.
Maaan, I'm such an imbecile! As it turns out, once the drivers were installed, display output was switched to the monitor I thought wasn't connected. It looks to be fine.
I need a drink.
Hmmm... Interesting idea. It didn't occur to me because I normally have two monitors connected to this PC, so one will at least come on but right now the second one's dc'd. Still, when a monitor isn't active, it tends to go into power-save mode. Mine didn't, which should mean it's still...
70MB sounds large to me too, but according to (http://sites.amd.com/us/game/downloads/Pages/radeon_win7-64.aspx#2), the 70.5MB package includes display driver only.
I did try the drivers on the CD that came with the card, which are definitely older, but I'll try the 10.1 tonight and see if I...
I'm pretty sure I did. The driver alone is something like 70MB, right? I'll check again tonight.
It's set to not reboot on BSOD and the PC isn't rebooting at all, it just sits there. It's bizarre.
I've only tried last known good config and have tried re-installing the drivers repeatedly. The system boots fine with the graphics drivers that Win 7 loads, but those of course are just basic. The moment I load the Catalyst drivers the system doesn't boot up anymore.
No, nothing at all. Windows begins to load and then the screen just turns dark and nothing happens at all. The computer doesn't reboot, nothing happens.
Hello all,
I'm getting pretty annoyed trying to get this to work and admittedly didn't search past posts thoroughly, so forgive me if I'm asking a question that's been answered.
I exchanged my mobo, because of the intel chipset problem, and since I had to reinstall the OS, and the new SSDs...
Hi all,
Wondering if anyone here can offer some advice. I'm getting my first-ever SSD and installing it in a Thinkpad T60. What should I be aware of before I start installing the OS? Also, which OS - XP or 7?
Thanks a lot!
So, that means I should turn the screw to lock it? If I remember correctly (I could check this but I'm feeling lazy), the lever on a Socket 370 also moved the upper park of the socket, right?
When I pulled the heatsink off on this one the CPU went right with it and it was a pain to separate.
I just disassembled an old Dell i1100 with a Cellie proc and right above the CPU socket there's a little screw that can be turned to open or closed position. Turning the screw moved the top part of the socket up or down. Anyone know what the purpose of this is?
OK, I finally succeeded at getting Windows XP to install.
Just in case anyone searches with the same issue, the appropriate drivers can be downloaded as a zipped file from here: http://downloadmirror.intel.com/19599/eng/f6flpy-x86.zip.
If you have an USB floppy drive, you can put the...
I appreciate you looking into it but that's actually an application, not a driver. It's Intel's Matrix Storage Console, which is run in Windows but it really doesn't do much.
Correction - HP. I don't know what's wrong with me today. And I'm not sure that they're the right drivers, which is why I'd like to get them through Intel and make sure that I have all of them. I do know how to slipstream installs, that's not the problem. The drivers I downloaded and tried to...
I'm trying to install Windows XP on this HP DV6700 notebook and it's driving me absolutely nuts. I've tried downloading SATA drivers, putting them on an USB floppy drive and loading them during the installation (F6) but I still get "No HDD found." This notebook doesn't have a "compatibility"...
Thanks, guys. I'll look into this.
Jack, since you're clearly well-versed, is it wise to use a non-broadcasting network and which encryption would you suggest?
I just purchased a new Thinkpad X201 notebook and am getting surprisingly poor wireless reception on it. I tested two notebooks side-by-side (this and an X201 tablet) and the signal strength on this one was between 15 and 30% while it was between 45 and 60% on the tablet. Additionally, the...
