What is all this, "the best case, bar none" crap? The best ATX cases are Addtronics 6896a, 7896a Chenbro Genie Lite-on FS020 Maybe the Lian-li and cooler masters but the aluminum is all hype.

I don't get why people would do this to themselves. Buy a Taisol or Alpha or FOP32 and sacrifice the 2 degrees Celsius for heaven's sake!

antec pp303x = abrupt resets?

The PP303x is a very nice PS. Either it isn't the PS or you have a bad unit, because the PP303x in perfect form is great.

Is there a classic Athlon with the socket A?

Sudheer is misleading. You can't get a 1GHz athlon classic but it won't be in socket A format. To answer your question.. NO. You cannot buy a classic athlon in socket A format.

Does AMR work well for a 56k modem?

You say that you don't care about the CPU time used but it is very important when you are talking about gaming. Your CPU is being pushed to the max in a game like Quake and cannot fully concentrate on processing the data through the AMR slot. Your pings, as with all winmodems, won't be very good.

DVD-ROM drives / decoders

I'm going to be putting a computer together soon, and it is difficult to get good reviews on DVD-ROM / decoder cards. I'm looking at the Creative Encore 12X right now, but Pioneer stuff also seems good. Can someone point me to a good site, or give me some advice?
