look here's the bad news, LATENCY. the lowest latency is in win98 first edition. and even that latency is suck. not just with the midi to audio but audio to audio if you plan on recording live to a pre-recorded track, the phase and timing is whacked. the best i have been able to do is record to...

yeah intel is more tolerant of environmental conditions. AMD is cheaper, but when you figure in the AMD approved power supply and the cpu cooler, the cost gets alot closer. my brand new t-bird is running stable at 1.5 ghz. Intel can't do that for the money. I just replaced my old asus p2b that...

Life expectancy of an Overclocked CPU

I have a 1.2 ghz 266 tbird on a iwill KA266r board the ram is crucial 1600ddr running at 2100 speed no problem, all on default voltages. got a real good chip cooler though. high voltages and temps is what kills the chips not multiplier or fequncy bus

Iwill KA266 (ALi MAGiK 1 chipset)..

The potential for problems lies in the chiset that the mobo uses not in the processor. If you go with intel cpu go with intel chipset. The VIA chipsets are in both AMD and intel. If you end up going with a VIA chipset for intel (there are good reasons for doing this), then reconsider AMD. I...

you may want to try board with the 815ep chipset. the 815e comes with onboard sound and I think network card too. MSI or asus are a couple of good brands. There are reviews galore. I am assuming you will get a P3 cpu. VIA makes a good chipset but it can be more problematic for first timers. Why...

that makes sense but I don't think crucial would sell recalled stock. would they. They test this stuff, don't they. Well maybe it was in spec for the gigabyte board but they knew that selling it straight out could generate problems. in fact thats what they told me.

the 686b chip in the via chipset is suck. especially with the ibm gxp's. I was going to get this board until I heard about this problem. There is a fix somewhere. I read about it in this forum. but it's the IBM drive I pretty sure. check thier site maybe it's fixed. I wish I could be more help...

good deal on crucial pc2100 ddr?

what's up with crucial! I order the 2100 they call me at the end of the next day to ask me what mobo I was going to use. I said Iwill KA266R they said that they only have ddr for the gigabyte board, I said fine I'll take it. They said they could'nt sell it to me because it has not been tested...

Poll: Searching for 'the' upgrade path. Could use opinions: Stick with Slot 1 or go AMD?

I agree with Bakwetu, an asus p2b or p3b slot 1 BX board can take a 800mhz oc @900 flipchip on a slocket. so bx is still a good investment for gf. save your money. If you must go new, get the Iwill KA266r. BUT really, stay cheap and wait

How many FPS is overkill?

sudden drops in framerate is what is most noticeable in games. Get the minimum rate >60 fps you be OK. but the higher the better. current hardware cannot do optimum fps + resolution so find the happy medium on your machine
