So...we have a computer which has a shared printer (the standard windows variety as opposed to tcp/ip port or anything) and another computer which uses that printer. Until this point, we have added the shared printer to every person's account as they login to it. Is it possible to set some...

monitor incompatibility?

sorry for vagueness...new drivers have been attempted for both video and monitor, and it's a question of it even getting past standby...all you get is the amber light (unless it's installed on another comp, apparently)

have an older flatpanel (AOC LM520) 15" and was trying to get it to work with an optiplex gx270, but no go...it'd work with anything else attached to it but that one. any ideas/thoughts?

windows shortcuts - keeping em there

We're running computers that often have multiple users and the shortcuts are normally kept in doc+settings\All Users. However, if one of our users decides to move or delete the shortcut, it affects everyone. Is there a way to prevent shortcuts from being moved or deleted for all users...

restoring files

edit: I'm also using ontrack easy recovery pro in conjunction with this...any suggestions would be welcome Thorny question, I think... I had files backed up on a separate hard drive which were deleted and emptied from the recycle bin. Then the harddrive was repartitioned and reformatted...

I've been running this motherboard for a while now and I'm starting to get really odd hardware issues...initially, I had a sblive platinum -- suddenly, after a reinstall of win2k, the comp wouldn't recognize it and then started causing the comp to blue screen all the time. It worked for a while...

I just did a fresh install of win2k on my computer...everything seems to be working right but this: I installed the updated drivers on the creative site for my sblive platinum...and then bad things happened. Right now I'm getting driver install errors such as with Multimedia Audio Controller...

I'm looking into buying some hard drive(s) and couldn't decide what would end up being the better deal performance-wise... WD 5400 rpm 60 gig IDE vs 2 Maxtor 7200 rpm 30 gig's using RAID I'm running an athlon 1.2 gig on a MST KT7-R (I think) and bout 384 meg ram and win2k pro...any ideas or...

linux and printing <shudder>

I'm trying to set up a linux box with a canon bjc 6000 printer. As far as I can tell, the printer drivers for linux are unsupported, but there are some set up from independent development. Problem is, it always prints a quarter size of the paper, i.e. everything shrunk to 25% of its supposed...

Win2k and Japanese input

I know you can setup win2k to use different language outputs, but whenever I enable the Japanese IME it acts wierd -- only lets me input on the first line and the text disappears as soon as I hit the space bar or enter...anyone know of something that can be done to make it work properly?

ATA questions

I only have two ide channels, but if I put, say, the cdrw on primary slave and dvd as sec master could I enable dma on both?

ahhh...well, I had both enabled DMA, cdrw being sec master and the dvd sec slave...the dvd's yucky playback if not dma and the burner really needs it to cut down on errors...it's a sony spressa 12x and a toshiba 12x m1402...if I put on on primary could I use dma for both then?

ATA questions

I was putting together a computer with athlon 1 gig and fic az11e board and noticed that both the 12x burner and the 12x dvd always showed up as ata/33 in the bios (before loading the os). Is this the normal rate? or should it be at something like ata/66? I never noticed with my own computer...

How does this case work?

I bought a case (generic 300W midtower) and looking through the bits, I can't quite figure out how to install the mobo. The mobo tray has these large holes that you stick these metal clips(?) in...I can see how it'd support the board but not how you could physically keep the board in. Anyone...
