You'll need a tuner card that has a cable card slot (unless you only want unencrypted qam and analog channels). Most cable companies will charge $2-3/cable card. But the only PC tuner that I know of that has a cable card slot is the ceton 4-tuner card and that runs around $400.
You can transfer shows between multiple tivos without using a computer. The tivo desktop software is just to download the shows from the tivo to a PC. But there are better free programs like kmttg to pull shows from the tivo and pytivo is really good at pushing files to the tivo.
You can also...
I have a Tivo HD and Tivo premiere with lifetime service. I turned off the HD interface on the premiere because it was a little sluggish, but also because I liked having a consistent interface on both tivos. I've been very happy with both units. The Tivo HD is a little over a year old and the...
I recently purchased a vizio 37" 1080p LCD on sale for $399 at Target. It's currently $469 on amazon.com, but it's last year's model, so it's likely to go on sale again.
Unfortunately, since 11/14/2010 TiVo no longer offers lifetime subscriptions. Glad I ordered mine on 11/12. You might be able to pick one up on ebay though.
If you're using co2 and you keep the beer cold, there is no way it will flat and skunky after 2-3 weeks. It will be fine after 2-3 months. I've had a kegerator for the last 10 years and never had a skunky keg. When I was in college we would go through 1/2 barrel kegs in 2-3 weeks and had no...
I don't know which harmony remote you have, but I use the 890 and when I look under Audio/Video Switch->Monoprice and type in HDX-301, it registers the above switch. The example model number is HDX-501 (same switch, but 5 inputs), so you shouldn't have any problems.
I agree with Mc-Master, but if you want to pick them up local, check out an Ace Hardware. They carry a lot of small things that Home Depot and Lowes do not.
I used to get Old Navy and Gap polos, but after a few washes they would look terrible. Now I buy most of my polos at the Tommy outlet store when they go on sale for $15. I've had some for a few years and they look almost new. No fading at all.
I agree with what everyone else said about getting 4 chairs across. My theater is 17' across by 22' deep and I could only fit 3 recliners across (91.5" total) and this gives me a walkway on both sides. You won't want the two end recliners to be against the wall, it will kill the surround...
How well an attic mounted antenna works also depends on how your house was built. The signals will really struggle to penetrate aluminum siding. Some reports I've read say you lose as much as 90% of the signal. In that case you'd be better off getting an indoor antenna if you have a large...
I'm confused...sounds like you already have a coax cable running to the TV. Unplug the coax from the tv and plug it into the tivo, then run the RCA cables from the tivo to the tv.
We dropped cable about 4 years ago and rarely miss it. We get basic cable (just the networks) since we can't get all channels with an antenna and it's only around $16 after taxes. We got a tivo with lifetime subscription, so there was some upfront cost, but no monthly costs from now on.
The...

By far the best I've used. Better than the $25 tivo to go software you can buy from tivo. Even has the option to run comskip to remove commercials.
If I had an extra computer that can play HD video, I might have done that. But the slingcatcher was on sale for $99 last thanksgiving and it's much easier to teach my wife how to use it. And the slingcatcher uses a lot less power and turns on instantly.
The device you use to watch your slingbox on a tv is called a sling catcher. I have a slingbox pro HD and a sling catcher. The sling catcher is not quite HD, I think it's something like 540p. On my 50" tv, it looks pretty good and it's usually hard to tell the difference between a 720p feed...
They've been trying to expand for a couple years, but didn't get the money from the state. Recently they raised taxes to pay for part of an expansion.

I dropped down to basic cable (channels 2-26, basically the networks and a couple other local channels) and got a tivo HD. Cable bill is only $16 now with the cable card and any videos I download, I can transfer to the tivo using pytivo. I transferred some mkv files and they look great on a...
Right now the FCC still mandates that cable companies provide cable cards. I got a tivo HD for Christmas and had the cable company out on Saturday to install a cable card and I only subscribe to basic cable (channels 1-26). Now I get my locals in HD and I can drop the cable company DVR which...
The latest 3D movies no longer use orthogonal polarization, they use circular polarization (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Circular_polarization) which is much nicer since you can tilt you head without the image becoming blurry.
Home 3D is not going to use color coding, it's going to use an...
I've been homebrewing for about two years. It quickly became an obsession. Before you know if, you have tons of fermentors and multiple fridges/freezers to ferment/condition/serve your delicious homebrew.
Whole chicken is definitely a better value. When whole chickens go on sale for $0.59-$0.60/lb, we buy 6-8 of them. Then cut them up and freeze them. From 6 chickens you get 24 wings which is enough for two meals for us (just me and my wife). You get 12 thighs which we typically boil and then...
You won't be able to get 5.1 out of the "receiver" you have. It only has stereo inputs, and only two, one for aux (xbox or ps3) and tv. You could get a RCA switch which would allow you to switch between the two, but to get real 5.1, you'll need coax, optical or HDMI input on your receiver.
I did a black velvet border around the edge which works great for 1.85 stuff, but I'm definitely looking into something similar to what you did with the magnets to improve the 2.35 stuff. Not sure I'll even bother with the 4:3 mask since none of that stuff is in HD anyways.
The Berlkine...
I finished my basement about 2 years ago and it's around 23'x15' and I spent around $10k to add the theater components.
I went with ascend acoustic speakers. They have a sale right now where you can get 5 speakers for $998 (same ones I have and I'm very happy with them). I paired the...
Optimator is neither a porter nor a stout, it's a german doppelbock. It's hard to compare that to a guiness, because it is a lager and guiness is an ale.
I recently did a make your own six pack with some porters and they were all better than guiness. I got:
Liberty Porter

Anyone find a way to make a new tab active? When reading forums, I like to middle click on a thread to open a new tab and then close it to get back to the main page. When I middle click in chrome, the new tab is in the background.
On my HD-DVD player (not the 360), I have to change the output resolution to 480p instead of 720p/1080p for the dvd player to expand to fill the whole screen on non-anamorphic dvds.
Here's another site that sells theater seating. I bought 2 rows of 3 (6 recliners total) and the price was pretty reasonable. I got in on a power buy over at AVS forum. I got the berkline 45004 recliners. When I did my research a year or so ago most people said that the build quality of the...
That will get you pretty close assuming your FG is somewhere around 1.010, but if your OG is 1.050 and your FG is 1.000 (very likely for a cider), your ABV will be 6.5%, and not 5%. And if you have a stout or other malty beer which has a FG somewhere closer to 1.020, then your ABV will be 3.9%.
I remember having these books when I was growing up (early 1980s) where there would be a small record (about 2" in diameter) built into each page, and there was a hand held player that you would stick to the circle and it would "read" the book to you.
Now for the life of me, I can't...
