I also lean on the side that Oryon should be in its own thread. However there was “slightly worse than Firestorm” mentioned in there a few times in the article… I wounder if this is due to some Apple IP being excluded from the design.

While the performance of M4 seems great I am a bit concerned that the specint pulls some 10 W for a single core. I rememver when A13 was concerning when pulling 6W yet it was the best perf/batt balance by far. Even today I would say it is cimpetitive. How is possible fire power to go up but the...

I think it is obvous that this is due to Apple rounding things. For 100 Gbps you need 6250 MTs for 102,4 you need 6400 MTs. For 120 Gbps you need 7500 MTs for 122,88 = 102.4x1.2 Gbps you need 7680 MTs = 7,7 Gts Pick your preference. I personally thik the went from 6400 to 7500.

Twitter acount @tech_reve posted some scores. +25% single and multi for the A18 Pro vs A17 Pro +35% GPU as well. They supposedly predicted A17 correctly but this time got taken down immediately. Also A18 2P+5E+5G A18 Pro 2P+6E+6G. I stikl think they should sacrifice a P core for the cheaper...

Only thing that i saw is that A17 cores are "Everest Coll" and "Sawtooth Coll" eg. they have the same codedames as A16 cores. I could see the relation between weather -> avalanche -> mountains but honestly at some point any silicon naming scheme will break free of any meaningfull relationship...

What about HBM memory being in there ? Top, bottom center die. Looks quite symmetrical nice and got too many tiles for a first gen tile design though. What if M3 Ultra is a new design like M3 Pro or M3 Max is a chop of M3 Ultra like M2 Pro is a chop of M2 Max.

Back in the days apple was super agresive with scaling memory bandwidth. Like having 128 bit bus in 2012 or 51,2 GBps SoC in 2015. Got a new memory gen. the day it was avalable. Then they got stuck on LPDDR4X from A11 to A15. Only moved to LPDDR5 on the M1 Pro and Max then M2 then A16. One...

Can it do a 10/10 loaf ? If not then the real cat will always reign supreme over the AI cat. Those abreviations are getting ridicoulous. While M3 Max can pull much more power on CPU the performance between the 14” / 16” is almost identical (in high power mode) while fans are louder and battery much lower on the 14”. Tha wattage is over 10 W less than 16” but this does not show in scores. Possibly due to extreme power scaling at...

Apple LCDs always had quite long response times. For example older iPads had 160ms. But this might be partly due to the way the display transitions in states or measuring methods. With Pro motion they went much lower with response times If you want good gaming Oled displays are coming...

Honestly this seems insane. iPad Pro is sought to get oled display drastically decreasing weight and thickness. (And increase price by hundreds of dollars) The basic M chips can draw in excess of 20 W under load which is way over the limits of an iPad or even a passivelly cooled Mac Book...

Well it simply looks like Apple silicon Macs put people rushing to upgrade but not brought many new consumers from the windows side. Now we are left with tens of millions of M1 users who are excessively happy with their cheap purchase and will remain so for years to come. While windows users do...

This was an interesting launch. The A17 Pro and M3 diverge on features. (?) A17 has a beefier neural engine 2x as big, while M3 got the dynamic caching on the GPU which from what I understand A17 Pro does not have or does not have enabled. Then we have M3 Pro which is 1,5x M3 not 2x M3. It...

While the IPC gains are virtualy zero, the power consumption is supposedly going down with every generation since A13 which could take some 6W in single core. While the clock went up from 2,66 Ghz to 3,78Ghz. I think this requires some serious engineering on the uarch even though the IPC has...

It looks to me like M2 Pros might use the A16 blocks. The CPUS have 16 MB caches(x2 for each cluster) they also look much larger than the A14/15 cores on the die shot. The GPU was mentioned to have larger caches as well (i think A16 mentined that too). It is interesting they use 4x ram packages...

The Apple iPhone 6S smart battery case review

The Smart battery case was launched in late 2015, triggering a controversy like many Apple releases. Deemed as an overpriced, ugly and low capacity first party alternative to a classical “mophie” it spawned “hate” on forums, on video even in news. The famous hump became an example of Apple...

    Apple A 12 - Tick or Tock ?

Hello comunity, I think all of you are familiar with intel’s tick tock strategy for CPU releases. I think we could identify a similar pattern with Apple SoC which became quite a topic over last few years. I see this as ticks being focused on energy efficiency and die size on even A chips...
