Something is failing and causing my CPU to run at 100%

This is weird... I'm having the same problem (nVidia drivers 94.24). I'll have an app (usually Firefox) randomly hang, then CPU utilization on one core shoots up to 100%, which is always Explorer.exe. Killing explorer and restarting it doesn't help because it goes right back to 100%. Logging off...

Back from the dead: Kitchenaid 500W Blender $40 shipped

I bought one of these the last time they were on sale. It's a fantastic blender! The only complaint I have (aside from the short warranty period due to it being a refurb) is that the all-glass mixing jar (yes, quality glass!) is a bit heavy when you're washing it by hand.

Have some free time? Build a Conroe rig for $1,400

I'd upgrade to the Seagate 7200.10 320GB model for ~$15 more, it's almost as fast as my Raptor X, and you get more space to boot. I'd also do the Corsair XMS C6400 kit, which is $204 AR at the negg. It's just me, I hate dealing with flaky ram. A little bit extra money can be shaved off by...

e6400 running exceptionally hot

Mine was running warm also until I realized the motherboard wasn't spinning the fan up to full speed (it was set to the 'quiet' mode). If the fan isn't up on high already, there may be a lot left there, my temps drop nearly 15C between low and high speeds.

Outlook express--how do i enable downloading of any file?

Sounds like someone installed MSIE 6 Service Pack 1... Go to the outlook express menu, 'Tools', then select 'Options', then select the 'Security' tab. Uncheck the box that says 'Do not allow attachments to be saved or opened that could potentially be a virus'. Now you can open the email...

win2k doesn't turn off sometimes

I have the same problem at times. I think (knowing the NT system) it is probably waiting for a hung process to quit, or something is failing while shutting down causing the system to appear to hang. I find that if I really wait (5-10 minutes) it will actually get to the 'shut down now' screen.

(On-board) RAID: Which is better?

The highpoint controller on my Abit KT7A-R was flaky as could be. Disk-to-disk copies were slow and near impossible to complete (from one disk to another on the controller). Promise controller on my A7V133 is smooth and speedy, although it doesn't do RAID 1. I can't speak for the HPT controller...

Asus A7V133, Any Conflicts With RAID and Sound Cards or is it fine?

As long as the sound card isn't in slot 2 (sharing IRQ with the Promise controller) it ought to be fine. I've got a SB Live 5.1 in slot 3 and Win2k and it's rock solid (ACPI disabled). Of course, in WinME, not much is stable even with perfect hardware.

Abit KT7A lockup

That was at -every- setting. I tried to make the thing stable for days with every FSB and vcore/vio setting possible. DOS-based scandisk would also hang. Running SB Live and AIW Radeon (the favorite unstable setup). :) Something funny I noticed, with the RAID enabled (with my two 45gb 75gxp...

Ahh! Which mobo should I get, and where?

And even better, with the Asus if you screw your OC up, you don't have to mess around with the CCMOS jumper like on the KT7A. The Asus board will reset itself and come up on it's own. (Of course on the other hand it tends to do that anyway with the cold boot/voltage issue sometimes).

Abit KT7A lockup

KT7A-RAID made my CD-Roms SCSI?

No idea on Win2k here, but WinNT goes thru the SCSI system for IDE drivers. You won't ever see an 'IDE' device on a WinNT system. I assume the same counts for Win2k. Totally normal IMO.

VIA MVP4 + WinMe = 16 colors?

WinME + MVP chipsets don't like 4-in-1 drivers. It seems to do something funny with the GART, since AGP cards aren't recognized properly after installation (of the AGP drivers, anyway). :frown:
