Will an SATA III SSD work fine in a SATA II computer?

I am thinking of shoe-horning a SATA III drive into a SATA I computer (Toshiba A215-S4747) just to squeeze another year of use out of it. Then when that's up, I can re-purpose it into another laptop, or make it my boot disk on a desktop machine. It should be backwards compatible right? TIA.

New AM3 Build - Please help me choose between these 5 mobo's

ok, I put in a new CMOS battery and bought a new BIOS chip. Put the both in and nothing. No beeps, nothing... I guess next I will remove the board from the case and try it that way... SIGH!

A7N8X-Deluxe won't boot up!

I did try to remove all drives except for my two IDE ones, and the only card that is in there is the video card. I had used a DOS boot bisk prepped by Windows XP. When I rebooted from the flash, there were several beeps and it went into 'default' mode so I had to reset my multplier, etc...

The 2TB SATA drive is no longer connected, I had it connected to turn off the Intellipark feature for my Tivo upgrade. The bite was to even get my computer to recognize it, I had to flash to the newest BIOS.

A7N8X-Deluxe won't boot up!

I flashed the BIOS on my A7N8X-Deluxe 2.0 to 1.008 to try and use a 2TB WD drive. It worked for a little while, but was flaky on access to the SATA drives. I was going to update the driver for my SiI 3112 chip to a new driver but before I was able to it hung up in Windows. I forced a reset...

OK - I am kinda bamboozled here. Lately my browser keeps asking me to logon to each site I visit, and usually I have to re-logon to Facebook repeatedly during a fifteen minute session. Is this a cookies thing or a javascript thing or both?

Old motherboards still doing you proud :)

I am still using my A7N8X Deluxe with my Barton 2500+ OC'ed to 3200+... It's like a old comfortable pair of shoes, they work and feels great. Just have to do those DVD Shrinks overnight is all... ;)

Which 500GB HD?

I too want a good 500GB drive. I am more concerned about reliabilty than speed. I hate the prospect of a drive failure having dealt with 5 in the past eight years. Is there a current reliability winner among the big three (Seagate/Maxtor, WD and Hitachi)? Seagate has been solid for me lately...

Upgrade from Athlon XP 2000+

6410NX Product Specs Looks like the XP2600+ is the highest you can go CPU-wise. Most RAM is 2X512MB sticks of PC2100 :( I think that for the money you would pay to max the RAM and CPU out you would be better served getting a start on a cheap AM2 board and CPU and retire that...

Ok, which is the best way to apply thermal compound ona CPU?

When I apply my TIM I usually apply it directly to the CPU and spread it out with the baggie. I do it this way to ensure coverage. In all the examples they apply it to the HS not the CPU? Am I all bass-ackwards on this? :confused:

If your power goes out, can you power your Vonage equipment through existing phone lines?

I forgot about the cable modem being powered, D'oh! We were kicking around the idea at work and I wanted to see if anybody had created or heard of such a thing. Anyway, thanks for all the thoughtful replies. If / When I do go VoIP I'll definetly get an UPS for peace of mind. Thanks, again!

Asus A7N8X-Deluxe memory issues

Yeah, I figured the Low/High density chips might be an issue, until I pulled the 2*256MB sticks this morning I had no idea they were Low density chips! :( The ASUS tech support FAQ's really don't address this issue very well, i will fire off and email to them and see if they have a clue.
