How does this cool gadget work?

Very interesting technology...could think of LOTS of applications!! I don't know if you guys have them in your countries, but here we have those automatic traffic speed control cameras. There's a sensor under the road and a camera posted a little later. Flash! You're busted! A couple of days...

A Good Star Trek nitpick

I think a woman's voice is also a practical choice, human (don't know 'bout the others) ear hears the higher frequency better. Still glad Barett doesn't do the voices any more... she just might not have it.

most idiotic motherboard ever

I know one case of an industrial robot that is controlled with a PC and ISA card... it's a one for inspecting metal parts. If the old PC has done the job before, I can't see why it couldn't do it now, but what if one day it lets the smoke out? The MB wouldn't have been constructed at first place...

BIOS setting ? for Overclocking Athlon

Tweaking other settings than BUS speeds does not have any effect on your ability to raise the CPU clock speed. In my opinion, it's not worth for example lowering the BUS speed to get a 0,5 higher CPU multiplier... slower RAM for example could become a bottleneck in your otherwise high performing...

Reliabiliy/accuracy of mobo/CPU sensors....

I think that's a normal operating temperature for PIII... In my opinion, you can't really trust the built-in sensors. At least the sensor in my KT7a tells me my Duron is running sometimes over 80 degrees celcius, while the real temperature is somewhere between 30 and 40. BTW, quite an unfriendly...

How do I copy HD to HD with 2 separate computers?

See if there is a spare connector in the middle of the cable your new hard drive is connected to. If there is, connect the old HD to it and boot. Go to BIOS settings and set up the HD or set it to auto detect. You have to make sure that the old HD is jumpered to "SLAVE" (if possible)...

OH Lord!... do I reFORMAT? help me please

Win98 are you using? You SHOULD be able to re-install just by throwing in the CD, and running setup.exe... everything SHOULD be fine, even your desktop items and registry SHOULD be untouched, just the system files will be re-installed. But then again, it's Microsoft. I've done it couple of times...

How long do you guys keep the receipts?

At least here in Finland it's really hard to get a warranty replacement without the receipt... I keep them as long as I have the component(usually that's not a very long time, though...). At least it's much easier to sell a component with it. I keep a file to store about all papers on everything...
